BITCOINS AND GRAVY - Ned Scott Interview

in #steemit10 years ago

Being a fan of podcasts, I found out some pretty interesting podcasts speaking about Steemit on Itunes.

And especially this one, BITCOINS AND GRAVY, by John Barrett.

John Barrett is a podcaster from Nashville, Tennessee. He is specialized in bitcoins and crypto-currencies. No wonders he got wind of Steemit and set up an interview with Ned Scott, CEO of Steemit. You can listen to it here

And here are some bits of the interview, which i recommend to everyone to listen to in its entirety :

What is Steemit ?

Ned Scott : Steemit is this online community where anyone can show up but we have structured it in such a way that there is an incentive to be a positive person, to be a positive contributor. The people who are showing up to provide positive information which helps people in their daily lives, these are the people who end up reaping the most benefit from the system.

How do you address censoring on Steemit ?

Ned Scott : The post, the comments and votes sit directly on the blockchain. And as you know thing which are on the blockchain, stay on the blockchain. It's a centralized site based on a decentralized platform. So it would not be in our interest to do censorship beyond what the government forces us to censor. Because we want to promote a free community, that is our goal.

Languages for Steemit ?

Ned Scott : Are we going to have different blockchains to support the different languages? But we realized that Steem blockchain is like a tree and support different branches. So here we are building our first branch, it's mostly catering to English. Then you can have another branch which caters to Chinese. [...] We realized it's sort of a tree and we need to let it grow to that it can support different branches, but ultimately we see different communities supported on the same chain, and let it grow to become a central repository for different types of informations.

When you have Steemit, how do we know we don't have another WTO or "Occupy Wall Street" situation where we have proof of local police infiltration to infiltrate and sully it ? How does Steemit address something like that ?

Ned Scott : When I look at the problem of WHO is controlling the message, who is controlling the media, it's an algorhythm problem. [...] With Steemit, what is so unic is that the algorhythm is sourced by the community. [...] it's open source, it's transparent. When we go to the site and we vote on content, with our stake, that helps to determine what is the best content out there.
