I agree there are a lot of moving parts that makes it hard to tell long term how sustainable this model is but nonetheless the community is growing and excitement is building. Maybe it's irrational exuberance. I think a lot of people missed the boat on bitcoin and see this as their second (or third) chance.
The Steemit community is growing and that is awesome, BUT that does not mean people should purchase Steem in hopes that it will have a Bitcoin-like price surge. Earn Bitcoin by posting on Steemit for as long as it lasts. Hopefully it lasts for a while.
steem will always be $2, steem power is the place to be to benefit from the inflation rate and market cap of steem
