We Suggest An Easy Upgrade To The Steemit User Experience & Hold An Open Forum To Discuss Improvements

in #steemit8 years ago

We really love Steemit, and we’re really excited to be using this platform!

It’s far superior to other platforms we’ve used for all sorts of reasons.  It’s exciting to be able to exchange real, valuable substance with Steemit users and participate in building up this community!

One of the things we love is that there’s room for improvement, and it’s evolving every single day!

Even minnows such as ourselves have the opportunity to be part of the upgrades.

We’re spending many hours a day using Steemit and we’re learning a lot, but in our limited perspective (#1 we’re not programmers, and #2 we’re not founders of the company so we don’t have the scope of consideration that some of these people do), we see lots of things that can be improved in the user experience.

To contribute to the betterment of this community, we want to address a simple and minor thing that can be improved or put up for debate that is both a desirable improvement and practical for the devs. We can use this as an arena for healthy discussion to come to a clear conclusion in the best interest of ALL!

Here, we’ll highlight a basic improvement from our running list of suggested upgrades:

We’re unable to see the full list of upvotes.

When we click the arrow next to number of upvotes, it drops down to an expanded view of users who have upvoted--but it’s only a partial list. There is “...+ X more” at the bottom, but these users that cannot be seen.

This limits our interaction with supporters, and we believe other users might be interested in all the accounts that have upvoted their comments too. To have a clickable option to view all upvotes could be a benefit to many people at many times. (Obviously, there’s some way to see this info, but most new users aren’t tech savvy so it’s not a legit option to work the wizardry to check the blockchain.)

We don’t see any reason why this can’t be implemented because #1 we assume it isn’t difficult code, #2 we don’t see any reason not to have it, and #3 we don’t see any reason it would be of benefit to some and not others to keep it this way.

Our conclusion is that it’s a simple upgrade that can improve the entire Steemit experience.

We want to hold the forum for open discussion and constructive criticism so anyone can access the compilation of knowledge that comes forth.

I'd like to be able to not just see the whole list, but see the voting impact of each person, their Steem Power, and if they are following me already and if I am following them.

For now I can get a lot of that info from here:

Working fine for me. What problems are you encountering?

I really like this idea. It's a great expansion to the one proposed in this blog. I'd also like to see a place to store photos, a better editor and an easier way to upload photos. Great post and a great idea to discuss mechanical workings.

It's sweet to be able to expand beyond the limitations of a post on Fascistbook, but we're finding room for improvement with the editor as well.

Agree on all counts.

Do you know that you can store your photos on www.steemimg.com? I just used it for my first post and it seems to work fine. It will let you put photos into albums, too. Once you've uploaded your photo there, it will give you a link that you can copy into the steemit editor.

You can view any user's wallet, which indicates their Steem Power. It could be beneficial to hover over the user name and having all those stats pop up!

Yes, but it takes a lot of time to click through to see them all. Seeing it when you hover over the vote count would be awesome.

One of the thing that is to improve the Editor experience. It's is not good enough . Google+ support should be considered. By the way nice post @gardenofeden

Totally agree. So happy someone asked!

Wow!!! These are both brilliant ideas -- opening this forum-- and --suggesting this upgrade! Unlike FB, the potential here exists to upgrade Steemit. Hosting a platform for user comments, as it seems the owners will be interested to know, is obviously a win/win situation. Thanks for bringing on the upgrades, Quinn, as you do on a moment-to-moment basis in all realms. Excited to watch this unfold.

Totally factual. Everlove bit of it.

Thanks for contributing your thoughts on how to improve steemit. Many are constantly thinking and attempting to implement, so we will see what becomes of it.

Good suggestion though!

I would also really like to have a Steemit widget for visitors to other websites to have an easy way to connect with a specific Steemit account/profile. Put that one in the wish list too please :)

That's a great idea!
