MVP: Most Valuable... Programmer

in #steemit5 years ago

MVP is mostly known for its sports reference: the most valuable player (in a team). Emphasizes being on the word team.

Steemit made a few things in their latest steemit blog. First of all, they approved and merged an important PR into the condenser, which is the complicated way of saying they added a functionality to steemit.com, proposed by someone from the community.

This particular update could have been added for a while, but I believe I understand why it was done now, although officially they said they wanted to wait until after the social and wallet components were split. We are talking about adding Keychain to steemit.com, as an alternative login method that does not require the user to copy-paste his or her private key at every login, nor to trust the third party with it (in this case Steemit, Inc.).

It was an expected addition, which I've seen in an implementation by @eonwarped for quite some time.

Timing of this addition most likely has something to do with an imminent release by EOS that has been announced as the "Steemit killer" (another one!). And Steemit slowly understands we need all forces to work for our blockchain and when someone contributes, to receive some kind of recognition at least.

Keychain, on the other hand, needed this inclusion into steemit.com for a wider acceptance into the ecosystem. One that will be healthy for the ecosystem.

And announcing an MVP (@quochuy), not the most valuable player, but the most valuable programmer, is a nice incentive that doesn't cost anything at all.

But the MVP at least feels his or her work has been appreciated and he is also highlighted in a post read by many eyes. While this doesn't add funds directly in the MVP's wallet for the contributions, it helps. Well done!

We surely have a lot going on.

MVP also stands for minimal viable product. Another key term in early software development cycles...

Yes I know. And another term software engineers are used too, but not general public.
