Should flagging require giving a reason?
I've only been here about a week but I've noticed much of the flagging of threads is done for no apparent valid reason. I've seen threads flagged then research what else the person has been flagging. I've seen people flagging for just plain prejudice or personal beliefs. Some flag all topics that deal with sex even if tagged properly . Some go after drinking or other vices. Some seem to target women in general. Others are probably bots just getting stuff wrong. The problem with this is a lot of the people flagging like this have a lot of steem power and can quickly bury a new thread.
So why not make it mandatory to specify a reason when flagging? Even on valid flagging it would give the author some feedback as to what they did wrong. As a new users I've had threads flagged and have no idea why. It's discouraging. Maybe even go farther and let people vote on flags with penalties if a majority feel the flagging was not valid. Take some power away from those that abuse it and give it to the target of the abuse.
Very, very, valid point! Thanks for the insight!
Agree, they should give a valid reason for flagging a post.
