Report: Greenland's only country with falling population in the Nordic region

While the population of other Nordic countries is growing, the number of people in Greenland is declining as the only place in the Nordic region.

A new report from the Nordic Council of Ministers, the State of the Nordic Region, analyzes key figures from the Nordic countries and compares them across borders and regions. In Greenland, it is especially the declining population that stands out. But the country is also fairly low when looking at education and employment levels.

On the other hand, Greenland is the only country in the Nordic region where the workforce has not fallen relatively in the last ten years, but on the other hand, there has been a slight increase in the proportion of the population aged between 15 and 65.

The State of the Nordic Region highlights many challenges, and the problems that can be linked to a low level of education are already discussed in Greenland. Having said that, we must not forget that there are opportunities for greater cooperation within the Nordic region and a number of strong networks that are of great interest to the Arctic region and look at the rich culture that Greenland can offer, says Mats Bjerde , Director of NAPA, Nordic Institute of Greenland.

Status in the Nordic countries

In this context, the countries of the Nordic region are also relatively good at attracting foreign investment - in fact, 7% of the total foreign direct investment in Europe goes to the Nordic countries, although they represent only 4% of the population.
