Blogging With Steemit

How does Steemit blogging work?

So Steemit is a blog and a social media running on the Steem blockchain, and you become a member by applying for a membership, which should take about a week to approve (at least that was the case when I did).

And once you have your membership, you can start writing your blogposts. The first post you should make is the #introduceyourself post, see the Steemit FAQ for that.

Now up in your left corner you see a pen or pencil icon, and if you click on that you will start to create a new post. Your posts will be written in Markdown, but if you are not yet comfortable with that you can click the editor link to get a small graphical editor.

Steemit has made a Styling Guide for Markdown to make it easier to get you started with that. Markdown is the most simple computer language in the world, and you can literally learn the basics in 5 minutes.

I also do recommend that you use Markdown to write your posts, since it is more powerful than the graphical editor, you have more choices.

Steemit have also made it very easy to include images in your posts, just use the instructions below your editor.

I do recommend that you begin your post with a featured image, that will represent your post and be the first thing that people see after the title.

I create my images using Gimp, it is a free and open source program about as powerful as Photoshop. It does have a bit of a learning curve, but once mastered the choices are unlimited, and you can style your images any way you want.

My featured images have a size of 840x490 pixels, and it seems to work fine on most display sizes, and I used the smaller size with the safe dimensions in this guide from @pkattera, thanks by the way.

The content inside the images is still a work in progress though.

Now below your editor you will see a field for Tags, apply appropriate tags from the tag page.

You will also see a preview of your post at the end of the page, make sure that everthing looks good and that there are no spelling errors before you publish your post.

How to take advantage of the social network?

So as I said Steemit is also a social network, and you are rewarded with Steem (the cryptocurrency in this blockchain) and your reputaion will go up, for everything that you do, like making posts, upvoting and commenting.

I also do recommend that you watch the videos in a guide called SteemSavvy from @jongolson, he can explain that part of Steemit a lot better than me.

But back to the social parts, when you post other members will comment on those posts, giving you a perfect opportunity to connect with them, and they might also follow you, and make upvotes.

I also recommend that you follow and upvote those who make comments, and anyone that you find that makes posts that you like, and don' t forget to upvote and comment when you find good content.

This way you make connections and your followers will rise and thereby also the readers of your posts, and it will just grow with time.

I also share my Steemit posts on Facebook, Twitter, CashJuice and with my email list (more on listbuilding in a later post), and I suggest that you do the same.

Thank You!

If you are reading this then I would like to thank you for reading my post to the end, and if you have any feedback please feel free to comment below, I really would really appreciate what you think.

And if you found it helpful, then I am very glad because that was the purpose of creating it.

Thank you!
