RE: Let's Bloom the Advertainment Community here on Steemit

in #steemit8 years ago

Good idea

But let's think a minute:

How can we put ads (linked to companies aka corporations), representing a corporation's image, corporate decisions (investors, board of command linked to other corporations and politics) with an open platform that want freedom for the people, leaving the Matrix, escaping the Banks and the elites?

How the current politics + economics around the world can "have a discussion" with a platform that support anarchism/voluntaryism/agorism ?

I can't personally see it. Maybe somebody else can.

Sort:

Upvotes will decide whether the community wants this "discussion". Well targeted ads can create additional value to the users.

It's not about what we want or discuss. It about the image we sell as a platform.
Ex: do you think Coca cola will put a banner in a anarchist olatform ? This will damage their corporate image. Why do you think you never saw Nike or any brand on pornhub.com ? You know, pornhub has a lot of action, not like the small Facebook platform. (Awkward joke)

Who says Steemit is just for anarchists? If it becomes a club for anarchists it''s going to fail. It has to be for everyone, including anarchists. And yes Reddit, Twitter and others do have large commercial presence and that is what comes with success. The point is to make that presence as beneficial to the community as possible because you can't avoid it.

If their presence raises the payouts to content producers, whats the problem? As long as it's not forced on people (banner ads are forced) and as long as it's fun, if it's product placement in a game or something clever enough to be voted up. If the corporations sponsor quality content, art, music, games, and we get to create and appreciate the quality content? Who loses?

The point is to make that presence as beneficial to the community as possible

Of course.

Who says Steemit is just for anarchists?

It's not, but all corporations are very careful with their image. They do a seriosu study before they invest in advertising somewhere new. And if they see tags like #anarchist and saw posts are commented and awarded...they'll understand that any journalist can see that. After 2 months of successful advertisment company on Steemit some journalist write in Guardian, for example : "Coca Cola is pro anarchist They pay big $$$ and supports it!"

Who loses?

I know everybody should win, but mass-media doesn't work like that, as you know. A particular incident can ruin a good career of good people, a company can retract the support and money from any public action if that action is linked with something that harms the company's image. You know that.

Let's be practical: why Coca Cola doesn't put ads on pornhub ? Really. They have a ton of users/views/activity.

I'm not against ads, of course, I fully support your initiatives that should improve the user's experience here and bring money to Steemit.

But I think we should ask for a professional evaluation (from a marketing manager, managers from survey companies, etc).
