TRENDING tab should get swapped with the PROMOTED tab
In this picture, the first thing you'll notice is you're being pointed at. Only then you will work on the shape and identity of what appears on it.

I think the "Trending" tab should not be the first to show up. Swapping "Promoted" and "Trending" would be very good. Promoted posts do get their promotion funding returned to the reward pool, afterall. But they're different from bid bot promotion.
Most of the upvotes used to promote posts on the trending page come from bid bots. This by itself proves they shouldn't be on the promoted page. They are fundamentally different. Bid bots offer visibility and profit in a negative way to the platform, while the promotion button offers only visibility, and it does so in a positive way to the platform.
It is still useful to know what the top paid posts are for transparency reference. This kind of knowledge offers benefits to those who understand the system. It also opens reward pool rapers to visibility penalties with greater ease.
The PROMOTED tab is a failure because it doesn't pop up first. You have to click to get to it. If it becomes the first thing to show when you click a tag, it'll become important. Most people with advertising and marketing knowledge / experience will confirm this.

I am far to new to be able to get into more details, but what you stated seems completely right to me. I never vote by bot and will for sure not use any bit bots but I could live well with a promotion if I have a post that could be of interest for many thus useful for many.
