A look at The Trending Page with Steem Analytics
Last night I listened to @ned discuss features of Steemit including the Trending page in his Bloomberg interview from a few days ago.
Today I decided to look at the trending page and use it to show some features of Steem Analytics.
Steem Analytics
Steem Analytics is a tool that allows you to browse user profiles visually and get some statistics on the posting and voting history, as well as useful links to some of the more seminal posts by each user
- If you are a casual or new Steemian this App may help you get to know other Steemians.
- If you are a professional blogger features of the site will help you analyse your engagement and posting history on Steem(/it).
Digging into the Trending Page.
Lets have a look at Number 1 on the trending page
We can get the link from https://steemit.com/trending
- https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@danyelk/meet-carol-and-her-one-day-in-life-with-lightning-wanchain-the-future-of-a-decentralized-financial-structure
The author of this post is @danyelk
Next Go to Steem Analytics
Input the User Name
- danyelk
After a few seconds you will get the full posting history for the selected user. Each dot represents a post. The size and colour are attributes of the individual posts. (Number of Comments, Number of Votes)
Selecting points on the graph will show you the post title
- we can clearly see how long the user has been posting on Steemit and get a feel for the frequency.
This is useful but lets dig into a few individual posts to see who has contributed to the big payouts
Next Select the Voting tab.
The first graph we see here is like the original graph but selecting points on this graph will drill into the individual post to see more detail on the voting activity.
Select any point here and you will see another graph below. I have selected the biggest one.
- There are clearly a handful of significant votes and many smaller ones.
In this Voting Graph each point represents a single upvote for the selected post.
Selecting a point on this graph shows the voter
- By clicking on this graph we can see all the big votes are by promotion bots!
There are many more useful features on this site, and more to come. Try out Steem Analytics today and let me know what you think.

Thank you for reading this. I write on Steemit about Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and Travel.
I loved the tool the first time i saw it. Although it took time to get acquainted with what the size of the circle was and the color. Having text/exlanation what these two data represent made it easier to understand the data points in a graph.
I'm not surprised that votes mostly came from bots. I wonder what could be the next level of statistics beyond this level.
My next feature will be to visually represent tags used over time. This will help getting to know what authors write about, and also let writers see what tags have been most successful for them.
After that I plan on digging into voting and follow histories. Not sure that data is as easily available but I'll see what I can get.
Cool. Thanks for the info. :)
This is a very accessible post - it could actually encourage newbies to explore for themselves that those who top the trending pages are just buying themselves up there!
Could help with the current decline in the active user base.
Very good work and a very special division my friend
I wish you all the best
Hope you have fixed the bugs and Steem Analytics is running good now.
ya i saw it and i think @ned is now going to promote steemit.
steemit got some big guys to promote.
day by day its runnig good.
wish you all the best.
nice work
Hi Eroche. Weren't you a little disappointed with the interview. I thought it was a total failure.
The difficult thing with interviews like that is that they are just looking for soundbites. Steem cannot really be explained in a one liner.
I was surprised with the question where does the money come from? The interviewer and the lady from New York were on the warpath and not really interested in hearing about Steem. I'll have another look but @ned handled the questions fairly well I think. Just not sure the interview achieved much. We need more exposure where the interview and narrative are on our terms or at least not hostile.
It just came across very weak. The interviewer didn't do any research so it was a pointless exercise. If I am interviewing you. I will find some things out etc and how things work. I don't blame him for everything but it was just very weak and wouldn't inspire anyone to Steemit.

This is a great app @eroche. Got a couple of questions (apologies if they're dumb ones). When I look the list of votes for a particular post, where is there two column for Mvest and both are the same? And what's the Mvest cumulative? Thanks
Thanks for pointing those out. It's still a work in progress. I have tidied up the output on that screen. It should now be clearer.
