Plagiarism is not just copying and borrowing other steemians original ideas as people do think it a very serious offense and it should be seriously look into because it decreases the motivation of other steemians.

Effect of Plagiarism

  • Plagiarism decreases motivation of others to produce original material and even if someone have great writing potential and great ideas to share, the person motivation to take the time and energy to do so is diminished if he can just purloin other work and pass it off as his. Also, if someone else is going to take credit for your work without any consequence to them, you will simply be less likely to produce further work and put it out. When seeing others getting credit for your work, you feel violated (as I can attest from personal experience).

  • Failing to cite or reference the sources of ideas or words decreases accountability. It gives room for potentially false information to be circulated and re-circulated without any way of finding out where the false information originated. This decreases ability to follow and deal with unsubstantiated material that presented as factual. False information circulated can damage individuals for sure, but it can also influence have far-flung ramifications that can lead researchers and even entire fields down the wrong path.

  • In an attempt to take credit for the work of others is basically fraudulent. A degree is supposed to mean something and it means that you've gone through the paces and done your share of research, written your share of term papers and exams, and that you know have mastered the skills commiserate with your degree. If you have skip through the process by opting other people's work and passing it off as yours, you likely have not developed the research and writing skills that are expected of you.

Let me share my experience of plagiarising a content without credit to the original author,i was going through feed on #kr community and found a post by @agawolf and @nand interesting so I translated it in English to be shared by other steemians who do not understand Korean but I didn't give credit to the original authors which were @nand and @agawolf and that got me into a lot of trouble, even when @nand commented on the post but I was to busy with exams,so I didn't check my blog for that, and @noctisk make me feel the consequences of plagiarizing post without giving credit to the original author and the whole #kr community had to flag all my recent post and I think if everyone on steemit where to be like @noctisk steemit will be a better place and the level of plagiarism will greatly be reduced.
