FEUD Vs PUBLICITY STUNT
The word FEUD and its counterpart PUBLICITY STUNT has similar meaning to some persons. However from the definition from wikipedia (2018, online),"A publicity stunt is a planned event designed to attract the public's attention to the event's organizers or their cause. Publicity stunts can be professionally organized, or set up by amateurs.[4] Such events are frequently utilized by advertisers, celebrities, athletes, and politicians".
On the other hand, wikipedia describes "feud /fjuːd/, referred to in more extreme cases as a blood feud, vendetta, faida, beef, clan war, gang war, or private war, is a long-running argument or fight, often between social groups of people, especially families or clans. Feuds begin because one party (correctly or incorrectly) perceives itself to have been attacked, insulted or wronged by another. Intense feelings of resentment trigger the initial retribution, which causes the other party to feel equally aggrieved and vengeful. The dispute is subsequently fuelled by a long-running cycle of retaliatory violence. This continual cycle of provocation and retaliation makes it extremely difficult to end the feud peacefully. Feuds frequently involve the original parties' family members and/or associates, can last for generations, and may result in extreme acts of violence. They can be interpreted as an extreme outgrowth of social relations based in family honor.
Until the early modern period, feuds were considered legitimate legal instruments[1] and were regulated to some degree. For example, Serb culture calls this krvna osveta, meaning "blood revenge", which had unspoken but highly valued rules.[2] In tribal societies, the blood feud, coupled with the practice of blood wealth, functioned as an effective form of social control for limiting and ending conflicts between individuals and groups who are related by kinship, as described by anthropologist Max Gluckman in his article "The Peace in the Feud"[3] in 1955".
Comparing this description of FEUD and PUBLICITY, one can deduce that it no doubt involves conflicting interest or perception of dominance by one party who tends to fight for a certain right or at least fight for equality. This fight for equality sometimes helps to maintain balance in a system especially if it involves individuals or group within a given social strata.
Bringing home the above comparison of FEUD and PUBLICITY STUNT within the Steemit community, the events of a few weeks back left some innocent followers of a particular individual perplexed as to how they became the grass when two elephants were fighting. Just like most feud lasts for generations, TIME will only determine whether all parties involved has sheath their sword and embraced PEACE. Hence, social feud needs to be examined whether it is a just PUBLICITY STUNT or more than what the eyes see.
