LA TORTUGA CARDÓN CARECE DE CAPARAZÓN OSEO Y EN SU CARAPACHO TIENE UNA COLORACIÓN NEGRA CON MANCHAS Y AZULADAS, TAMBIÉN ALGUNOS DESTELLOS ROSADOS EN LA BASE DE SUS ALETAS Y CUELLO, POSEE CINCO CRESTAS QUE RECORREN EL CUERPO EN FORMA LONGITUDINAL Y SE DIFERENCIA DEL RESTO PORQUE PRESENTA EN SU PICO UNA FORMA SEMEJANTE A DIENTES "AUNQUE NO POSEE". TAMBIÉN SE LE CONOCE COMO "LA TORTUGA LAÚD" Y EN CUANTO A SUS PESO, LA TORTUGA CARDÓN PUEDE LLEGAR A LOS 650 KILOGRAMOS,, AUNQUE LAS HEMBRAS PREDOMINANTEMENTE PASAN HASTA 500 KILOGRAMOS.....
