People who are seeking a short term pay-off with low quality content that you slap together with little effort then it is not for you. You will be down voted ignored and frustrated. Your reputation will not grow and likely decline. You will not earn any significant amount of money.

The steemit community is supportive, helpful and constructive. It is full of intelligent, positive people who are building something meaningful for the future.

3 STEEM CURRENCIES

Steem

Is the fundamental currency of the system. It is volatile, subject to inflationary losses but easily exchangeable for bitcoin and other crypto currencies.

Steem Power

Is steem that has been invested into the network as equity in a process called powering up. It can be converted back to stem by powering down which takes 104 equal instalments dispersed 1 per week. This serves as protection against hackers.

The up votes and flags from users with a high value of steel power are worth more than those with relatively little steep power.

Steem Dollars

1 SBD is worth approximately 1 USD. By holding steem dollars you are effectively lending the community a value of a dollar. You can check the current market price of SBD at steemdollar.com

Content Creation

Content creation includes both top level blog content and comments on those posts. Create posts that people like and you'll gain up votes by other users, gaining you crypto currency.

Tags are an important part of every post because they enable readers to find you - the most popular tags can be found on the home page. 

Payouts

Don't get too attached to the USD number at the bottom of your posts next to the up vote number. 

A fixed amount of currency is rewarded every 7 day period. They payout amount fluctuates due to changes in the market value of steem. They payout time increases a few hours if your posts is receiving new up votes.
