in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

The honey badger(Mellivora capensis), is the only species in the mustelid sub family Mellivorinae and its only genus Mellivora. It is native to Africa, Southwest Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. Honey badgers favour bee honey and will often search for beehives to get it, and it does so without being adversely affected by the sting of bees.

Here are 7 amazing facts about this amazing creature;

*THEY ARE VERY AGGRESIVE

Honey badgers are not afraid to engage in a combat with any animal, even larger animals like the Leopard, Cheetahs, and even Lions. Hence, the Honey Badger is the most aggressive animal in the animal kingdom, according to Guinness Books Of World Records.

*THEY ARE OMNIVOROUS

Honey badgers are omnivores, hence they eat virtually everything ranging from snakes, insects, tortoises, frogs, rodents, fruits, eggs, to dead corpse, and etc.

*THEY ARE THICK SKINNED

There are reports of arrows and spears glancing off their thick, rubbery epidermis, which is also loose enough that, should a honey badger get caught in the mouth of a predator, it can writhe around and break loose.

*THEY ARE IMMUNE TO SNAKE VENOM AND BEE STING

Honey badgers are highly immune to snake venom no matter how venomous the snake is. However, when honey badgers are bitten by incredibly venomous snakes, they only pass out for a while, and bounce back on their feet once again.

*THEY USE "FART ATTACK"

Yes, honey badger often use fart attack on their prey. And trust me, their fart stinks like "hell". It is speculated that the honey badger uses this attack on bees sometimes, when searching for honey in beehives.

*THEY GO FOR "THE BALLS"

As funny as this may seem, honey badgers actually go for the balls when attacking a larger animal like the lion, and even humans. They go for the balls, ending up either castrating the animal or causing a serious damage, and then they wait for the animal to bleed out before feeding on it.

*THEY ARE GOOD DIGGERS

Honey badgers are able to dig very deep very quickly thanks totheir large paws and strong arms.They use this talent to quickly hide in the dirt if necessary, or to dig a burrow to sleep in. They can dig a hole big enough to fit their entire body in few minutes.20180216005548.jpg
