thats a question I think many of us pondered at some point! I considered bots in my early steemit-days, but never actually used one. I chose a very "puristic" attitude:

• Never self-upvote
• Do not follow people only because they have a lot of SP
• Only follow people with interesting blogs or because I like them
• Do not use bots
• Do not confuse "rewards" with "appreciation"
• Value true interaction as most precious thing on steemit

This was hard at the beginning, but it really enabled me to have an insanely good time on steemit and spend it with the best of people! :)
