292 Crocodiles slaughtered
The massacre of the 200 crocodiles in Sorong Papua has been highlighted by Japanese media such as NHK, AFP Japan and other media.
"A crocodile who killed a local resident in Papua angered local communities and killed some 300 crocodiles and is now deeply concerned by the local nature conservation agency," NHK said.
Events of the massacre of 292 crocodiles occurred on Saturday (14/07/2018).
Residents massacred crocodiles after a resident named Sugito died of crocodile prey while looking for grass around the crocodile breeding area.
Of the 292 crocodiles, two of which belong to the government and 290 others are assets of the license holder, PT Mitra Lestari Abadi.
"A clerk heard someone shout for help, he quickly went and saw the crocodile attack, the person was killed and the villagers came to captivity and killed all the crocodiles," said the Head of the Conservation and Natural Resources Agency (BKSDA) in West Papua, Basar Manullang .
After the citizens' funeral on July 14, hundreds of villagers attacked crocodiles with sticks, knives and others to conquer them.
Of the 292 crocodiles killed there are about two feet long body.
"There are also local residents who make videos showing how the action of killing and hoisting crocodiles with rope," added NHK.
There are crocodiles that are in shelter as well as permit from the government.
Local animal protection authorities condemn it.
"Local police are also checking accountability and conducting criminal investigations," NHK reports.
