Rewards In STEEM / SBD Are Back, Let's Hope This Time For Good
I think @gillianpearce asked me yesterday in a comment how long until we are going to get paid in STEEM / SBD and I was just going to answer to her "soon, very soon", when I saw we already started to get mixed rewards:
We had a brief interval a few weeks ago, when the amount of printed SBD was lowered by witnesses, hitting the sweet spot of mixed rewards, but then the price of SBD went up again, so witnesses adjusted their bias again, resulting in more SBD being printed. Seems like now we are hitting a threshold where the SBD price is slowly getting to the peg, which allows witnesses (me included) lower their feed price bias, thus making room for STEEM in the rewards basket as well.
As you can see, I just reduced my price feed bias to 25% (from 50%).
Let's hope this time it will stay like this for good, and STEEM will finally decouple from SBD, going, obviously, to the moon.

Because Steem collapsed and we are now getting paid in Steem you think this is bullish for Steem?
If Steem goes up in price doesn't the payments in Steem end?

Yep. It was me @dragosroua and I noticed last night that I had started receiving payments in Steem again.
Was that the original design/hope then, that we would always earn both SBD and Steem?

While I do understand the mechanism behind it. I don't see a big difference.
I always converted my SBD as soon as possible into Steem, so that I can power up.
Now I do get steem, steem power and SBD.
Could you please explain a little bit further why this is a good case? So that I can understand the ecosystem a little bit more. To me it looks the same, steem and steem power I do mean in this case.

It's a good thing mainly because SBD is approaching the peg and witnesses are not printing too much of it to counteract the pumping. The "default" payment scheme in Steemit was always 50% Steem Power, 25% STEEM and 25% SBD, but when the price of SBD went bonkers, the witnesses printed more SBD, which took out STEEM. Now things are getting back to the intended behavior. But as you said it's not much of a difference if you already converted and powered up.
Thanks for the clear explanation. It were indeed great periods when the 50% was paid out in SBD. Even with a 1,5 ratio between steem and SBD, it kept on being cheap steem.
Still I would like to see to have the SBD as high as possible until the 15th of July. Not out of personal interests, but I do run a World cup contest where the prize pool is in SBD. As the lower it get, the lesser the winners will get, if they like to power up!

I thought this was the case when steem’s price goes below 2$. To be honest I am sure a few posts were made to clarify this. But it seems that it happens even if the price is above that mark
It's a matter of how much SBD gets printed.
Do you also, as a witness, participate in minting SBD?

Hopefully it will stay for a while, the last time it was brought on was when the price of steem and sbd were down and now they are down and its been brought back. It would be better the the rewards are higher in steem than sbd thou
