If You Take the Time to Read Someone's Post Please Upvote It!

So I've noticed recently that after HF-19 people are reading posts, even commenting about how they liked it, but not upvoting.
WTF? I get that people are concerned about voting power, but your seriously not going to upvote someone's post after reading their content and enjoying it?

In my mind that is almost like stealing on a platform like this. If you simply don't like the post, that's fine. Of course no one expects you to upvote a post you don't like. If you did like the post and even commented on it, then what are you thinking? Support the author!

If we all start succumbing to greed with our votes, then this platform is going to go down the tubes fast. Especially those of us who are taking the time to slowly produce quality content and build an audience. I had 4 or 5 people comment on my last post and not even upvote it. Ironically, they were all even smaller minnows than myself.

Do you think I am going to have any incentive to follow you? Or upvote your stuff? Or upvote your comments? This is a community here and the general currency is that we support those who support us. Have you not noticed how the whales swim in their own private pool sipping champagne and high fiving each other's posts day in and day out?

My vote might not make you rich, but .50 or so is still worth something. If we actually support each other, well that .50 will be a $1, $5, etc. over time. This is how the platform works. I'm not suggesting that anyone run around and deplete their voting power to zero all the time, but at least upvote something that you read and actually enjoyed.

I can only speak for myself, but even if your vote counts for $0 I still appreciate your support in knowing that you liked my content and thought enough of it to show you support.

Thanks for listening

good post, upvote with 100% slider to you

Agreed, man. I got a person who commented for me to upvote their post and the bastard didn't even give me an upvote. I was like.... mmmmm... no.

So lame, I don't think people understand how this platform works.

I think people see their voting power depleting down to lows they've never seen before and are getting worried enough to get stingy with their votes. This article I wrote a few days ago explains why they should just keep right on upvoting. I think it will help make your point :)

Yes, I read your article when you published it. I guess that's why I'm not being stingy with my votes. Your article was part of the inspiration for this one. I'm gonna add yours at the bottom for reference!

uggh sorry for double post had a delay on my end.

I agree! Upvoted and Followed. Thanks for taking the time to write this!

Thanks for supporting it!

better a crypto than a nickel :)

Very true. I have almost more contest entries than up votes on one of my posts...

So weird....I really hope we get ourselves together here before the masses start using Steemit. If not this is going to be another junky social media platform where the rich get richer and everyone else begs for crumbs. I know whales are getting frustrated that people troll their comments looking for upvotes, but that's what happens when wealth gets so concentrated. We really need a redistribution of steem here if we want long-term success.

I've noticed this a lot lately too. Even if you don't upvote 100% you should always upvote content that you read. I always upvote all of my meaningful comments but I've noticed several of those comments don't even upvote me and it is definitely frustrating. I think that the newer minnows are liking the idea of having money and they don't like the idea of giving any of it up and that is frustrating. Here's another great one....... how about people that don't upvote my post........ but do upvote their own comment? That one is always hilarious.

Yeah, that really blows my mind. Honestly, I don't think we should be able to upvote ourselves at all.

Now that I'm back on Steemit a little more regularly, I am noticing the same thing. HF19 is going to take me another week to figure out how my vote power is affected. I really don't like feeling like I'm limited to 10 super power votes (100%) because my policy has always been to give a 100% upvote to the posts I read. Anyway - here's to the experiment. :)

Hopefully folks will get used to using the slider.

I've discovered that if I upvote posts at 17% and comments at 1%, everyone gets a bump and my voting power rarely goes below 90%. That makes my votes consistent and keeps the value of the votes as high as possible for the most folks. An exceptional post will merit a boost in the scale.

So far, so good.

I'm still letting it rip. I want to vote and support good posts. I hear ya though.

Agreed! Even if I do a few 100% UV, I can maintain an 80+ VP and the value is still noticeable.

I like to encourage conversations, so that's why the small percentage there. I can be very generous with comment UV with these caps.

The flexibility is a plus, so far, in my book.
