I liked the old one
With the announcement of the new Steemit logo 12 days ago on the official Steemitblog came this announcement:
The Steemit brand and logo are protected by intellectual property laws, including copyright and other >proprietary rights of the United States and foreign countries. This is to allow Steemit to protect the >brand and logo in ways that extend user safety. One may not make unauthorized commercial use of, >reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute copies, perform, or publicly display the Steemit logo >or brand, except as permitted by the doctrine of fair use or as authorized in writing by us.

Wait a minute Steemit, you do not respect my copyright, but you are asking me to respect yours? No one on Steemit is authorized to use my photographs, or derivatives of them for any reason either, without express permission from me the copyright holder. My images are also protected by intellectual property laws! Yet, page after page on Steemit is filled with images from myself and my stock photographer peers, whose livelihoods depend upon the licensing of these photographs.
On Steemit, only image plagiarism is taken seriously! It doesn't matter if you attribute my image to Mickey Mouse, you are OK! Of course, as you may well know, you are not OK under the law! Why should anyone be freely allowed to use my images, but not yours? Do I detect a double standard here?
So, if there is someone policing the use of the new Steemit logo, I respectfully request that they also police the images being used as eyecandy on Steemit without permission or licensing fee !
This logo was created using an image © Diane Macdonald. All Rights Reserved.
The old logo can still be used as mentioned here:
The Steem logo remains unchanged, and will continue to be the logo for the Steem blockchain and >STEEM currency.
The Steem logo is licensed under Creative Commons CC0, meaning you’re free to copy, modify, >or distribute (even for commercial purposes) without needing to ask permission or give >attribution.

Thanks for taking the time to read this! I appreciate it.

Too bloody right! Wonder what the rules are with regards to steemitimages.com hosting all of these stolen images uploaded from these spam accounts?
I couldn't believe my eyes when I read that one - not that they don't have a right to copyright protection, but so do we! No one is protecting our rights. It's a free for all to get the best eyecandy, and I have heard every excuse under the sun about why it's OK to take my work - one of them being that I don't own the pixels! :-) I need to check that out. I had not heard about that site!
just look at the image properties for any image uploaded to steemit (that was created by dragging it into a post etc). They aren't on the blockchain as I understand it, they are hosted on steemitimages which i guess is a domain owned by steemit inc.
I knew they were not on the blockchain and that they were hosted on the site, but that's all I knew! My very first day on Steemit I found my own image being used by a very prominent member of the community - 4 months later and still not even an apology!
And you should check out the steemit terms and conditions - thats a laugh. No use of bots is one condition.
Oh, no! That's a good one! Some bots seem to be tolerated, but not others!
Its a shame.
It is. But they had better start being serious about copyright issues now!
