Why Steemit is missing a huge opportunity!

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

I would imagine many if not all of you are aware of the "Fake News" phenomenon. During the presidential election many "main stream media" outlets attempted to discredit their critics/competition in the alternative media space by creating the "Fake News" label. This in my opinion had two main results.

First, it pretty much blew up in their face, with millions of Americans applying this new label to the very same media outlets who tried to weaponize it in the first place. This display of irony culminated with the President of the United States of America calling CNN fake news.

The second, and in my opinion the more important result is the new crusade by internet, news and social media corporate operations in labeling and censoring "Fake News". Many alternative media websites and citizen journalists have been targeted. It seems as though many of these organizations are complaining of lost revenue due to changes in algorithms and advertising services , which are singling out websites they deem as "Fake News". This includes many popular blogs and YouTube channels with large followings. Many of these organizations are actively seeking new ways to avoid censorship and increase revenue. I cannot think of a better platform than Steemit.

Steemit does not rely on advertising, merely how strongly your message resonates with the community. Let people decide for themselves the information they find valuable, and reward those who provide it as they see fit.

Imagine if several popular alternative media sources moved their content and large base of followers to the Steemit platform.

I believe one of the areas in which Steemit is failing to gain traction is in regards to attracting already established internet personalities/ organizations.

I think reaching out to some of these organizations and letting them know, there is another way, a better way, the Steemit way...may be good for them and the community as a whole. I cannot think of a better opportunity than this most recent period of censorship.

This is just my opinion...

I would really like to know your thoughts on the matter.

Good job! Keep it up and you will get some of them on here!

When you have people like berniesanders censoring people for having differce of opinion then best would be for everyone and anything to avoid steemit.

I am still relatively new to steemit but I would imagine a large enough influx of "different" opinions and supporters of those opinions would eventually overwhelm a few people flagging content??

naw, if they want to censor you there is nothing anyone can do because of the way steemit was built. even the creators of steemit cant stop berniesanders because of the steempower he has.
