you are right. But what is the alternative and what is your motiviation? In my opinion the only one is a personal blog, that you have to pay for (Domain, Host, ..), and promote it. It will be a bunch of hard work until your blog reaches the number of viewers you can get here at steemit.

As long as you don't buy steem for real money, you don't loose anything than time :)

And yes, the plattform is dying ..
