The Herd

The endless stampeding, snarling, screeching herd makes its presence abundantly clear once one dares to scroll down past the appropriately placed pictures of ticks and tumors, all the way to the section labeled “comments”. Upon quick glance, one gets the impression the herd is one, but I know better.

We must gear up and prepare with extra caution as we examine these specimen in the wild… Look! There’s one now...

If we follow the tracks we will find this lone straggler here has fallen wounded and left the safety of his herd. The pack circles in...

The Pack

Hungry, strategic, ready to pounce on any wounded troll calf, the pack has no mercy.  Fangs drip with blood as the savage onslaught of unbridled anger gives the calf a unexpected chance to escape!  He closes the tab and wipes his tears with his Dorito-encrusted hands.

Although an entirely different species, the pack in this case is no more a predator than prey despite the appearances.  The herd and the pack coexist as twins of aggression.  It may appear to us here on Steemit that these things hate each other and seek one another’s destruction through any memes necessary.  But the bittersweet reality is that the pack and the herd need one another, they live for one another.  It’s what makes their mountain dew fizz in the morning and their laptops to slam to close at night.

The herd and pack live off of their collective savage aggression and submission, one fueling the other while the normal people simply ignore the comments.

Domestication

Steemit.com is a rescue shelter of sorts.  Here, we try to rehabilitate their behavior by offering money for witty, helpful, or constructive contributions.  We discourage them from considering running with the herd again by getting them invested into the platform at no cost, tempting them to forget the needless, omni-directional cycle of venom, by helping the platform succeed.

We all understand there will be lapses in this process.  We have seen junkies do anything just for a fix of malicious trolling.  Unfortunately for them, the comedown is much worse here, since down votes suppress their ability to be heard and to ultimately earn. 

It’s a process, one that takes lots of encouragement and support.  Everyone deserves second chances, especially here at Steemit!
