Beyond Steemit - Steem 2.0 Apps

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

When we look at Steemit, some may think we see it all.  We see people posting, people voting, people commenting… But what is unseen are the Steem apps that are yet to be built.

I decided to run with the idea a bit and create a couple mockup scenarios for apps that we may see in the future.

Comments Sections

This one is pretty straightforward.  Steemit comments inside comments sections across the web.  This can be an entirely different branch from Steemit itself, in this case I started up a company called Steemfyre, which has incorporated the voting mechanisms of the Steem blockchain into their comments sections.

Steemit and Steemfyre can most certainly coexist.  Each serves a purpose in advancing Steem to various niches across the Internet.  When you log in to either platform, your wallet is linked.  Your influence will be the same across the Internet.  Nasty, trolly comments sections?  Please!

Marketplace

This could go all sorts of ways.  I started to think about how we could incorporate the voting mechanisms of the Steem blockchain into a marketplace setting.  Here’s what I think makes sense for Steembay.

People upvote things they like.  After the 12 hour “payout period”, whatever money the person selling the item raises in Steem Dollars, will be deducted from the price of their item.  They cannot cash this out, it is only linked to their item, and if they delist it, the discount is destroyed.

Upon selling the item, and the buyer confirming successful receipt of it, Steembay releases the discount to the seller.  The seller then receives any other payouts collected upon reaching the second 30 day payout.  In the end, the seller has sold the item for exactly what they wanted, plus maybe a little extra, and the buyer gets a nice discount to encourage continued business on the platform.

Curators get rewarded the same way as on Steemit by supporting good sellers and items early, while flagging posts viewed as harmful to the platform.

All deals on the site are settled exclusively in Steem Dollars.  Again, all wallets are linked so when you sell something on Steembay, your wallet on Steemit reflects the changes.

More

There will be many other applications for Steem.  Since there are no fees on the network, Steem may be the perfect vessel for deeds, land registries, legal documents, etc.  Imagine a Twitch-like platform where people could be “tipping” the gamer with their upvotes, rather than their mommy’s credit card.  There’s so much potential for Steem that it could even become ubiquitous with our everyday Internet activity.

With Steem, we aren’t aiming for the moon, the stars are just too damn pretty.

Investigating marketplaces so I ran into your post just now. I guess no use to upvote now or?

Uptoving deduct from the price is a really good idea!
