Steemit is a Lot More Fun... When it is WORKING! Thank You, Developers!

in #steemit8 years ago

I was going to post something completely different, but I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what a relief it is to have Steemit "working" again, after a couple of weeks of rough seas.

Ready to fly like eagles?

And say "THANK YOU" to the developers and tech staff working behind the scenes to get everything running.

Whereas I have no idea what it takes to run a social content site as the decentralized front end of a blockchain, I can't imagine it's easy... especially when outside forces (DDoS attacks) get in the way.

I'm grateful everything is working well again-- seems faster than ever, even-- and it seems like perfect timing for that, just days ahead of SteemFest in Lisbon. I can't even imagine what it would have done to the mood to have SteemFest with Steemit barely accessible... awful thought.

Communication

I do stand by my post from a few days ago that communication when the shit hits the fan IS really important.

I-- and most other people, I'd expect-- don't expect perfection here... but it's nice to not be in the dark. Even if all we get is a dedicated second twitter account for NOTHING other than site status/problem updates... that would be awesome... along with a default landing page that kicks in automatically when the site starts returning above a certain percentage of 50x errors.

Or something. As more and more people find their way to Steemit, we can less and less afford to just "go dark" when things go wrong.

But in the meantime, really glad to have Steemit back!

How about you? Did you "miss" Steemit when the site was slow? Did you keep trying to use the site, or did you go do something else? Did your post volume go down a lot (mine did)? Would you like to see better communication about "site status" when things go wrong? Leave a comment-- share your experiences-- be part of the conversation!

I was missing it so much I can't even tell! To be able to vote and post normally again looks like meeting Buddha in your kitchen now lol:) I hope we'll never meet such difficulties again.

It would be nice to think everything will go perfectly from here forward, but I don't think we should expect it. I am just hoping they will add some kind of system to make users more informed about problems when they happen.

It's so much better now, and with the new look actually working now, hopefully things are going to get even better, and confidence in the platform will go back up. When SMTs are rolled out, these kind of problems are going to be a huge hurdle if they take as long to sort out.

I keep reminding myself "Steemit is in Beta" but that excuse only goes so far... people get tired of buggy web sites and just plain LEAVE when they don't know what's going on. And once your audience has lost confidence, it doesn't matter HOW brilliant your comeback...it's all uphill from there.

Steemit feels like it's running nice again, and now I feel that trying to post daily while the site was slow or down is only going to help more now when it comes to getting my posts out. Always nice to have a little faith, it's good knowing that the developers really hear us users. Having issues "stickied" to the top of the page I feel will better help us understand as opposed to blind speculation at times.

Seeing the site running again, allows me to believe more in the future!

I just think communication is super important... we're all in this unusual "relationship" together, so the more informed we all are, the better.

Aim to be informed and properly share information with one another. You should write a relationship column c: <3

I have been quiet in these parts, for the last couple of days. ( relatively speaking)

Personally, my steam has gone out of steemit. I hope to find the enthusiasm again - This last three weeks have been draining, and frustrating.
One thing for sure - If I am feeling this lethargy (as opposed to enthusiasm every morning), others will be, also...

Yes, the last weeks have been frustrating, but if the mood at the Dublin meetup last night was anything to go by, there is enthusiasm, excitement and optimism aplenty.

I got really close to that place of almost stopping... simply because it was "too much work." Sure, I could "make" Steemit work (and I did)... but I shouldn't have to. And clearly, I was not alone... the interaction level on my posts dropped by 50%.

The main reason I kept going was this sense that "They are not going to let the site be in this shape for SteemFest."

I agree I'm very happy they fixed it for the most part . Now commenting and posting is made easier , now we can provide good content

Just the whole having to copy everything before posting and then needing to double check steemd every two minutes to see if a comment REALLY posted... to much work. I love Steemit, but that was just too much work!

Maybe we had it too easy and they were testing us , regardless I'm happy to be back and connecting

sure missed the speed an a working steem. It frustrates many people and I was Wondering how this could be possible. So far no details known

I suppose it was related to the changes in the user interface, but ultimate we are just guessing.

yea you are 100% right...its easy and effective ..and it looks like you worked very hard...i wanna follow you!

Seems to be running pretty smoothly now. Thanks for the follow.

Nicely said @denmarkguy

Thanks Daisy!

Steemit's poorly I read, and as if in sympathy, I've not been too good myself. But things are looking up.All it needs now is the Steem dollar price (SBD) to get better too. When oh when?

I wish I knew. I am hopeful that some enthusiasm will build around SteemFest.
