BoosterKe Minnow Support Program and SteemKenya New Year Review.

1: @BoosterKE Minnow Support Program.

During our second Steem Meet-Up, we took the opportunity to discuss a way in which we could easily support ourselves and also support those people who were joining our growing Kenyan family.

At the very beginning, we started as a group of about 4 people, @cmbugua, @jeanwandimi, @mutitum and I, @deniskj. We decided to pool whatever little we were earning into a single account which would act as a community booster.

Those who contributed something into the bot, at least on a monthly basis, were included in the autovoter and had their posts curated with a 100% upvote.

Unfortunately, since we have had very many low earners at the moment, not many of the community members have had a chance to contribute to its development.

Since the voting power on the community account is relatively low upvotes are currently only restricted to those who contribute something to the growth of the community account. There is no minimum contribution amount. This is something that I would like to see change very soon.

Goals for the community account.

  • Starting today, I am going to delegate the maximum amount of Steem Power to the community booster account from my wallet to increase its upvote value. Although I will miss out on curation rewards I will probably make that back with author rewards.

  • We need to find a better way of equally distributing the wealth amongst the members of the community even those who have not contributed anything. At the moment, I am suggesting upvoting the #introduceyourself posts by new members as a sweet welcome present. That will give them a healthy incentive to stay on the platform and also contribute to the growth of the community.

  • Looking for support from other established Steemians. We obviously cannot grow very fast without the help of well-wishers. Fellow Africans such as @destinysaid have already lent us a helping hand with a delegation of more than 400 Steem Power that has helped us get to where we are today.

2: The Latest on Steem Kenya.

Steem Kenya has grown from 4 founding members to 35 members in less than two months. We are mainly comprised of friends and family members and that has probably been the main driving force for the community.

Just like a web, the knowledge about Steem and Steemit is quickly branching out in all directions and soon the community will grow bigger and bigger to rival the Bitcoin community in the country.

We have had 3 Steem Meet-Ups so far with a fourth scheduled for early next month. In every one of these meet-ups we have had new faces joining us and that is very encouraging, to say the least.

It is also worth to mention that two of our members @mutitum and @jeanwandimi have had tremendous success with some of their posts hitting over $100 in post rewards.

They have shown that it is possible to start with almost nothing on Steemit to eventually earning large amounts of money on posts. The goal is to always have quality posts and also grow a great audience.

Conclusion.

One of the hardest things I have come to battle as an older minnow on Steemit is the desire to earn over the desire to assist. Sometimes the desire to help yourself is overwhelming and you tend to forget that there are other people who probably need your support.

This is a battle I have been fighting. There is no better feeling than being able to withdraw that SBD and being able to go out and spend on things that you previously considered luxuries.

However, after a bit of self-reflection, I have made it a point to do more with what little I have and focus on growing the strength of the community.

That is why I have decided to put as much of my Steem Power as possible into the @BoosterKE account to help the community earn more on their posts.

Finally, a word of appreciation to all those who have been supporting our initiative as well as members who have taken the goals to heart and are doing their very best to make Steemit a success for fellow Kenyan minnows.

For those who are facing a crisis of motivation on the Steemit platform, I would like to recommend this amazing interview by @Jerrybanfield of @Aggroed.

See what you can achieve if you stick to what you believe in.

This is @steem-africa and am here to help build Africans in every way I can. Your write up has met our standards and we have up upvoted and resteemed your post... You can also follow our trail on Steemauto to help give better rewards to Africans

This is a wonderful amazing project you've started hoping to support it soon

That makes two of us. Hopefully, soon, we'll all be able to make substantial contributions.

With time you will get there. There is so much potential the only thing that wavers is patience.

Support is always welcome maxwell.

Looking forward to make the contributions as well. Thanks for this initiative.

Please do. The faster the community curation account grows the better for everyone.

I support this initiative 100%

This is a very great project. I can't wait to see what is in store for Team Kenya.

wow i love this initiative. much love from ghana

400+ SP is a lot. I read a post that said you can double your SP in less than six months if you post frequently and upvote yourself. This is obviously controversial but might be less so if done by a curation account.

Deploying @BoosterKE as a bot that comments on its members posts and upvotes itself in the process could work.
