I envision this working kind of like Google+ collections. With Google+ you don't have to follow everything they post but you can just follow one of their collections which is just a category that they make up. This would work using tags also but you would have to be very consistent with your tags.

And I'm one of those people interested in the gaming posts but not so much the German fiction as I can't read German :)
