Why Do Humans Procrastinate?steemCreated with Sketch.

Let's face it, we all may have some part of us that lacks motivation to post on Steem or for some of us...do anything productive! xD To understand this, we must realize that motivation (when it comes to the types of goals we set for ourselves in today's society) really doesn't make sense for us, biologically. Let me explain:

"Your body is telling your brain to stop doing the things that make you successful"

We are all animals. We evolved with advanced communication, which simultaneously gave rise to advanced consciousness, and we began doing things much differently than the rest of the animals living on this planet. Instead of just foraging enough food for a few days, we began to plan ahead. Our species began to cultivate and manipulate crops. We began to trade goods for services, which meant we didn't all need to leave the village to hunt or find resources. As this evolution of culture took place, we began to do things much more unnaturally than we had done for millions of years. Sitting in school for 8 hours a day or working a 30-40 hour week doing a routine job for payment are two examples of things WE WERE NEVER MEANT TO DO.

The fact is, we evolved to survive. We were never MADE to work the way society forces us to in 2017. Doing great things, or becoming something "super-human" means that we must overcome our lack of motivation. And THAT is the key. Realizing no matter how amazing you are, how talented you are, how successful you are, you will still feel that lack of motivation telling you that what you're doing is unnatural, and that you should stop. Your body is telling your brain to stop doing the things that make you successful in most of society's eyes. Of course, a bodybuilder is the first to realize the truth of this. Dealing with the pain is key to building a muscular body. Physical pain is the body literally telling you to stop what you're doing. Demotivation is emotional pain that is also telling you to stop. Ironically, we have been able to quantify and utilize this pain to become "super human".

Next time you wonder why you feel demotivated, realize every human with a brain has felt this type of push-back to doing hard things. It's that split second after your brain tells you to stop, that you must push-back and say: Today, I'm going to get out of bed. Today, I'm going to make a list of things to do. Today, this is the pain that I will go through to make the life that I want.
