A BATTLE against my colourblindness to create PHOTO-REALISM art.
Practice, patience and persistence. They are the 3 words that I live by, well draw by! I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, however drawing in colour has always been a problem for me. However last year whilst I was at uni, I decided enough was enough! I was a grown man now, I had a loan, a car and I was ready to draw with coloured pencils.
You might be thinking, coloured pencils I've been using those ever since I was a toddler! If you are colour-blind like myself you will understand the heartache and embarrassment that comes with picking up the red pencil after your mate has asked for the green. It's not that I would never use coloured media, its just I would tend to avoid it, like when you see your ex on a night out.
So there I was, ready to start my first real colour pencil drawing, not really sure where to begin. The new set of 125 coloured pencils staring me in the face, I didn't even know this many colours existed (why would I, I'm blind)! Luckily I had chosen my subject matter carefully, whiskey being poured into a glass full of ice, delicate and oddly satisfying. The first few pencil marks were light, careful and lacking in confidence however I slowly began to believe in my useless eyes and the drawing started t develop.
Fast forward 30 hours and my first coloured drawing was finished, was I happy with it? FUCK YES. I didn't think I had it in me to draw in colour, not least to spend 30 hours drawing one picture! You might be thinking that is a ridiculous time to spend drawing a picture and you a dead right, it is. Luckily the time was well spent as I later sold the drawing to a neighbour who loves his whiskey, a very lucky coincidence.
THIS IS MY DRAWING
Have you thought about trying out the EnChroma Colorblind Glasses at all?
No never, I will give them a goog now! If these cure colour-blindness then that is amazing haha!
They seem a bit pricey but I guess you cant really put a cost on improving your eye sight
