I have to agree with your point on comments @yabapmatt. This is my 400th post on Steemit (I'm new) yet I have posted only 20 blog entries. It does seem as though comments are vastly overlooked. I read somewhere in Steemit that a good citizen always upvotes comments received on their posts. I practice this regularly, but I feel alone in following that good advice. There should indeed be a trending page for comments!
The problem is that the "good citizen" thing doesn't work very well. The incentives need to be aligned with the desired actions - in this case that means that if we want people to post good comments they need to get recognition and be rewarded for doing it. It will take more than just an upvote from the original post author to achieve that - but it's a good start nonetheless!
