Steem Feature request : Post View Count

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Steemit is great even in beta stage but it seems the Steem-drama is ever increasing day by day with the single overwhelming subject : Why is my post not been paid as much as other posts around here.

I mean : Look at this guy's post

The truth ?

Everybody can only make an educated guess , at best , about the real reason a given post has not accumulated upvotes and/or reward.

Well , besides the obvious subjective view of every blogger here we do not have a lot of info to really make an objective analyses of every post's outcome , have we ?
It always boils down to " I did not catch any whale " , " This is a rich get richer jerk circle" , " Only tits get upvoted here ! " .

I have addressed this here

Wouldn't it be wonderful to have some data on this , and stop speculatively guessing ?

I mean : Hell , all of you can see exactly how much Steem I have in my wallet at any given time and were it came from too. Any other social network does not provide such info , Facebook for example.
If I'm wrong here please leave a comment , I did not researched this too much ... talking about educated guesses, right ?

Why not have a view count on every post , even if the post was not "up" nor "down" voted , it would be the count of every new IP address view of the post.

I would even go a bit further by showing the user level distribution visit count.
Example : You just posted and received , let's say , 8 upvotes in total.

Breakdown :
You can already see who upvoted you , I will not go into this.

Viewed by 28 "dust" level accounts totaling 0% of total stake and received 0 upvotes.
So you would understand you had some reach in this category but none upvoted you.

Viewed by 126 "newbie" level accounts totaling views from 0.00135% of steemit stake but received 3 upvotes.
So you would understand you had some reach and if all these accounts would have upvoted you , you would have been payed 0.00135% of the total steemit stake available , unfortunately only 3 of these accounts have upvoted you meaning you received one upvote per 42 user views.

Viewed by 12 "user" level accounts totaling views from 0.00209% of steemit stake but received 4 upvotes.
So you would understand you had a ratio of one upvote from every 3 views , great , but you reached only 12 "user" level accounts. Anyways , you reached 0.00209% of the total stake and received 0.00069% stake from upvotes.

Viewed by 3 "superuser" level accounts totaling views from 0.00455% of steemit stake but received 0 upvotes.
Understandable you had a very low reach in superuser accounts and absolutely no upvotes.

Viewed by 7 "hero" level accounts totaling views from 0.10170% of steemit stake but received 1 upvote.
So you would understand you had a ratio of one upvote from every 7 views , or maybe it was just some luck...

Viewed by 0 "superhero" or " legend" level accounts : Ok , this really means you had bad luck...
Absolutely no whale saw your content , that's life.
At least you can stop second guessing yourself about post quality and start thinking about posting times.

The idea is that you have more than just an educated guess to work with.

You know 176 users have seen ( or at least read 3-4 lines ) you post and that 8 of them have upvoted you ,
You know you just had no luck in catching a whale because of timing , nothing else.
You know you had one upvote for every 22 users views on your post. Maybe it's a good ratio , maybe not , we don't know until it is implemented giving you an opportunity to compare your results to the , lets say , 7493$ post you saw in trending.

You have more information to become a better Steemer or to better make your Steemer-drama case , whichever.

This would improve Steemit in multiple ways , just to mention some :

  • Whales could use this as a search criteria once a day to look for especially unviewed posts , that could have some great potential , but where lost in the Steemit "underground".

    • Bloggers could use this analytics to stop second guessing the timing , the title , the content or the formating subjectively.

      • Frustrated Bloggers could be presented with some actual data about the view count and maybe realize the harsh but truth fact : Some posts are viewed , but just don't have what it takes to be upvoted.
        ( Yeah , I hate Drama-Queens ! )

        • Will help Baby-Steemit evolve even better having yet another very useful source of data about user experience and behavior on Steemit.com

Let me know what you think and feel free to ask me any questions you might have !

@dan @ned tagged you in hopes you will see this.
In am in no way begging for an upvote from you guys !

I think that is a great idea as far as an analytical approach.

Personally I enjoy the idea of the possibility of getting paid for something I do all the time with a great deal of passion. :)

Alche , seen your blog : you have found a very interesting niche for yourself.
Keep on rollin' ! :)

I was thinking about this the other day. I blog on other sites (oh, but why?) and one of the key metrics is the number of views. Tracking time-views-per-page, how it was found, and where geographically the visitors are from is interesting, but the number one data point is the number of views. Steemit is missing this.

With view data, the world opens up and the content authors can make important decisions on subject selections, content, title, and timing. Please add the number of 'views' to the data mix.

Exactly !
On what other sites do you blog ?

Several industry sites (I am in cybersecurity), LinkedIn, and my personal blog. Every once in a while I will get published in an online-magazine.

Nice , glad you landed on my post.
Had a chance to browse your blog , interesting posts , bookmarked some .

Hi! This post has a Flesch-Kincaid grade level of 8.8 and reading ease of 73%. This puts the writing level on par with Leo Tolstoy and David Foster Wallace.
