Steemit.com and an affiliate program. Could it work? Pros and Cons of the system.

Anyway, last night I was thinking "How can I become a whale on steemit using the skills I've honed for the last 10 years?" and I thought that if I can generate sign ups and content creation of others, it would work much better for me.

We all want to be like @ned, @dan, @blocktrades, @berniesanders, @smooth, @dantheman, @tombstone, @itsascam, @rainman, @steemed, @summon, @blackjack, @cloop1, @steempty, @wang, @firstclass, @skywalker, @fuzzyvest, @steemit200, @complexring, @riverhead, @enki, @roadscape, @wackou, @xeldal, @freedom, @nextgencrypto, @clayop, @kushed, @witness.svk, @proskynneo, @smooth.witness, @analisa, @au1nethyb1, @bitcoin2016, @arsahk, @silversteem, @paladin, @satoshifund, @datasecuritynode, @alphabet, @excalibur and @cryptoctopus and that's where an affiliate program would come in. I know a ton of super affiliates for other websites and I'm sure they would jump on board to help drive even more traffic and sign ups for steemit.com

I know some of those accounts/people I mentioned above are bots, but they're still whales :D

I'm in a few pretty amazing skype groups that are invite only and it's full of very well known Online Marketers, so if I were to just post in there saying "Hey, steemit now has an affiliate system!" I'm sure at least half would sign up and generate traffic lol :D

Anyways, to the affiliate system.

There could be two ways this can be done, and each has their own pros and cons.

The First Way:
Getting paid to generate sign ups. Each person gets a $10 deposit of steem into their account when signing up. So let's say we help generate a sign up, we should get a commission for that person registering to become a member of the steemit community. But how much should we make? I don't think an equal share of $10 would be ok, it would have to be $5 or less.


The Pros of this:

• We can help generate sign ups and get paid $5 or so per sign up.
• We can focus our skills on getting sign ups and not posting content and curating where we aren't as strong.
• No up front investment from steemit since this is an affiliate program.
• Help increase awareness of Steemit through our websites promoting out affiliate links.
  
  
  The Cons of this:
• People can create bots and their sole purpose is to create accounts on steemit for a commission.
• There might be too many people wanting to do this and not know fully how to execute a plan of action to obtain sign ups.
  
  
  Solutions:
• There would definitely have to be a system in place to restrict signups if they are behind a proxy. You won't be able to get everyone, and even if you do, there will be genuine people getting blocked.
• Affiliates don't get paid until the user who signed up shows they are a contributing member and start a few conversations or contribute to posts.

The Second Way:
After we get a sign up, we get paid a percentage of their earnings. We don't take money from the user, we get paid in steem by steemit.com directly into our profiles. A lifetime, or recurring, commission structure would be best for this. The commission wouldn't be 100% or even 50%, I think 10% to 20% would be a better price for recurring commissions.


The Pros of this:

• There's less risk of bot created accounts since we wouldn't be getting paid for sign ups.
• The user would have to contribute to the community before we would even think about getting a commission.
• The payouts wouldn't be a hefty burden on steemit since not all users will become whales. It would be nice though :D
• The system can be completely automated on the backend and a users post doesn't have to be monitored like a hawk for fake upvotes.
  
  
  The Cons of this:
• You won't get as many people wanting to become an affiliate to drive sign ups.
• The commissions will not be very high at the beginning unless you get writers that are amazing... which is pretty rare.
• Affiliates will drop off at the beginning because they won't be making $1,000s a day.
  
  
  Solutions:
• Find affiliates that already know what they're doing, like myself and a few others that are considered "Super Affiliates". The lifetime/recurring commission structure will ensure they stay around and build up their profile.
• Make everything automated and streamline. If an affiliate doesn't have to ask questions they will be happier to push traffic to your platform.
