a (very) brief case on why 'active' should be the default streem as opposed to 'trending'
So in Steemit's drive to more equality with the implementation of the reputation system I would also propose that the default Streem on any given sub-topic should always be 'active' - this allows for a few small benefits. The foremost being that it offers more of an opportunity to become noticed.
Trending is trending for a reason, but by defaulting to trending Steemit now defaults people into the popular narrative. This also instantly removes time from the allotment the end-user has to browse/interact which means that they will be less likely to interact with any other subject matter for simple practical reasons. All of this leads to a very sharp pyramid effect. This could even be a setting, but statistics show us that 'default' settings stay that way even for higher risk objects like routers. People, for many reasons, 'Go with the flow" and social media magnify's that effect.
Hi I agree I tend to gravitate to the new stream when I am browsing. I also like to browse specific tags a lot.
I'm with you, I find myself using tags and then switching to new or active, I lean more to active because it's usually more engaging and you get less bot posts i've found
Agree but active is a nice place to go to find things to comment and vote on that others miss. What is hot for I don't get it at all.
hot seems to be some algorithm with the amount of votes and comments whereas trending looks like the most $ accumulation, at first glance :)
It will be interesting which one survives in the longrun - I'm confident that the community will produce which method is best for it's own long term benefits. Any short term solutions will eventually give way to what has the most stabalizing and expanding effect. I'm sure the blockchain will show us ;-)
I'm sure different perspectives will find value from each of the channels, however, if we simply let the system decide I imagine the popular channel would win out - if for no other reason, it already has the most momentum.
Thank you for information :)
