RE: Never thought I would do this to Steemit!

in #steemit5 years ago

Dear @arthur.grafo

Yet, the admin here have chosen the worst of all companies to sell us to - Google.

What do you mean? Ned sold Steemit to Google? Did I understand you well?

I no longer have to watch those sh*t ads that intrude at the top and within the page..

That's a bit strange. I realized that I can only see ads if I didnt sign in on steemit. Did you see them all the time?

Cheers,
Piotr

I do not think this has anything to do with Ned. I saw a post (I cannot remember whose) where a number of Witnesses discussed Rewarding Flagging, so that it no longer costs anything to flag. Within days they agreed and went ahead. I made a note of those Witnesses and those I had voted for, I removed my vote. Since not many others did anything, I did not make a difference...but at least I know I am not supporting them.

Then I saw Witnesses discuss advertising. Now I see advertising. As I mentioned in my rant above, I would not object to some advertising, though I would not like to see sex advertisements, but only if it is at the top or the bottom of the page. I did not like seeing advertisements in between replies on my Reply page, but it made me suspicious, since that is exactly what google does.

I am not strongly protesting the fact of advertising, what I am arguing is that Steemit is one of the very few censor-free platforms on the web. By them selling advertising rights to google, what do you think will happen soon? Once they are spending a larger amount and we (Steem) has come to depend on that money and fear the withdrawal of their advertising as it would crash the value of Steem, then they tell us that their advertisers dislike this or that post or poster and they might have to withdraw.

Just the possibility means that Steem tumbles, admin panics (it is mostly THEIR money which is crashing, since they have very large SP balances and daily incomes in a number of their accounts), so...they say they cannot censor us? If your Rep is flagged to -1 who will look at your posts? Second, they can close your account - and that is exactly what google (their so-called advertisers) will want.

Next important point. I assume a number of posters are using anti-tracking when they are on Steemit? It would be foolish to do otherwise. Now, despite my precautions, google know about me and have a record of all I say or do here. To prevent that happening, I have never had an account with FB, twit, and so on and do not use google where it means I have to register (like in YT and their email accounts), while also never doing searches though their search (spy) biased engine. I hope you will not tell me you do not use DuckDuckGo or StartPage HTTPS for your searching?

There are many companies who do not ban conservatives and non-communists and their money is just as good. But Steem had to choose to partner with the worst of those who are against those of us who love their country, their kids and are not communists? In other words, are not Corporate Marxists / Socialists / Globalists.

I very much appreciate your comment @arthur.grafo

Thank you for your time and effort. Amazing reply.

It's censor-free only because it's very small. All small media can go easily "under the radar" of authorities. Once Steemit will grow - things will change.

STEEM as a blockchain can be still censor-free but it won't matter.

I hope you will not tell me you do not use DuckDuckGo or StartPage HTTPS for your searching?

No I don't. I'm one of those cluecless people who accepted the fact that I cannot protect myself if things will go wrong. Plus I'm not really using google at all. I'm spending 90% of my time on Steemit and I dont have time for anything else any more lol :)

What are those Duckducks for? :)

Yours, Piotr

I have set my browser to do my searches using :

https://startpage.com

I used to use DuckDuckGo, but I now prefer StartPage (I noticed that although they are supposed to be protecting me so that the sites I visit or the searches I do, are not known to be mine, I find most of the suggestions are centered on South African sites...which means they are not hiding me.

Odd, I had somehow gained the impression you spend quite a bit of your time on Crypto Currencies and new start ups.

Dear @arthur.grafo

Odd, I had somehow gained the impression you spend quite a bit of your time on Crypto Currencies and new start ups.

I do like those topics and I'm quite passionate about all that tech. But I'm myself not very tech savvy.

My strength is knowing how to reach out to people and build their trust. I'm good with social media marketing and I'm simply using my knowledge to help others grow here.

I believe that there are many smarter people out there and many with enormous resources and getting to know them may bring some business opportunities in the future.

hope it makes sense :)

Thx again for your awesome comment
Piotr
