When I start at Steemit, I think that trending and hot posts worth $100, $200, $300 SBD with their followers and the upvote of community. However, as much as I learn about this platform, I understand that it's not quite right. So, I meet the whales and boosters!

How did I notice that?

In the first week, I check people that in the first post get $60, $70 or more SBD. I thought that is quite strange, so I went to their wallets to check the transactions! I check some records like that:

I didn't know about this users, so I check them in steemnow.com and in Steemit and discover what this accounts are. I try @buildawhale in this [post](https://steemit.com/life/@criptomaster/are-you-ready-to-reveillon-2018) and it's worked. I got an upvote from this user and it's really boost my post!

What are the whales and boosters?

Whales and boosters are accounts that have a massive upvote worth. They upvote you if you give them SBD or STEEM. The quantity of SBD or STEEM that you've sent is converted in an upvote. For example, I'll give the example of @buildawhale.

• If you sent 1 SBD to @buildawhale, you'll receive 0,46% of @buildawhale upvote (check on my post, I tried it and it work).
• If you sent 10 SBD to @buildawhale, you'll receive 5,20% of @buildawhale upvote.

It's worth?

Well, I believe that it worth your SBD. Why? Imagine the following example, I give 1 SBD and I receive a 0,46% of @buildawhale upvote, that means I receive 2,54 SBD. I did my post as a Default (50% / 50%), so I only get 50% of the Author Reward.
Imagine that I receive a 2,20 SBD in Author Reward, I get 1,10 SBD, I win 0,1 SBD. It's much? Well, it's not much, but it's something.

It's good for the community?

Well, I believe that it's very good to this community. Why? Because, for me, I don't mind of sent 1 SBD to a whale if I know that I will receive a little more! I'll making my quality post and I'll just ask for a little help to increase my earnings. So, I'll winning with my followers and their upvotes and be helped by whales with a massive upvote.

Disadvantages? Yes, there are. For example, for people that have already a lot of upvote, they can ask for more and more, so it's a little unfair compete with guys older in this platform. It's quite difficult compete with a guy that have already a $1 upvote.

My advice to you is simple. Everyone should have an opinion and be alert, because not everything looks like what it is. If you sent an 10 SBD to buildawhale, 10 SBD to postpromoter, 10 SBD to boomerang and 10 SBD to sneaky-ninja you will get a massive upvotes and your post will probably be at the top of this community! You'll probably get $80, $90 or more. I did not test that (I would love to test ahah, but I dont have that SBD) but I already saw people doing it!

To conclude, I believe that the whales are important to the improvement of this community. However, I believe that some people can abuse of that, become harder for someone get into the hot or trending topic!
