RE: YEEE-HAAAH!!! Celebrating 1K Earned Steem Power!

Hey, @lifeworship,

No problem, totally OK to get back to me here.... I'm always happy to hear from you. ;)

Thanks so much for the link - It's really cool to discover that I'm not the only "geek kid" who admires Bucky and his grand ideas!

I especially like the versions of his floating city that are allowed to simply drift with the wind currents. Imagine living in a floating city and automatically traveling the world on a somewhat random schedule!

As an exercise, I think it would be cool to figure out the smallest practical Floating Fuller Sphere that could be built with existing materials technology. Perhaps we could pull together enough crazies to build such a beast and have a floating global community! ;)

Thanks again for your original article mentioning this, and for getting back to me with the other link! Cheers! :) :) :)

with things like aerogel, cabon nanotubes, dyneema, and other supermaterials, it's going to get easier and easier. if a way could be found to make part of the outer shell photovoltaic, now that's what i call off the grid.

Awesome sauce! Let's do this thing!

i think carbon nanotubes and aerogel are still pretty expensive. i do wonder if dyneema can be turned from a filament into a membrane.
