An OPEN Letter to NEW Members on Steemit About What Steemit Really Is

in #steemit8 years ago (edited)

Dear Newbies or Minnows (as you will be called from here on in),

I am not going to sugar-coat anything here. I'm stating facts to get you started on the right foot and possibly lessen some undesirable outcomes and clear some unrealistic expectations about Steemit.

The fact is, there are great opportunities here in Steemit.

But let this not fool you into thinking money or rewards come easy.  Steemit is NOT a "get-rich-quick" scheme although some made it huge  even in their introduction post.  Unless you are a popular personality in cryptocurrency world, a financial guru or something, or even someone who "holds" huge ass-sets and boobies to show the world, there's a lot to be done here in Steemit before your "dreams" of making it big comes true.

You will find yourself buried with "unrewarded" posts you have spent so much time to write, some "flaggots" who will hate your guts (sometimes for no reason at all) and bring down your reputation,  jealous of what others make of their posts having similar contents like yours (maybe yours is even better, according to you, of course), and other stuff you probably didn't expect because you are so engrossed of making money here.  Steemit can be a paradise or a hell depending on how you deal with issues and how determined you are to succeed.

All these are but part of a real-life system called Steemit and is in no way different from real life situation. Yes, Steemit is different in some ways compared to its social media rivals.  But like anything in real life, you have to work your @$$ off to earn those dollars, maybe get "lucky" once or twice by getting upvotes from "whales". But don't depend on it. Whales have issues of their own.

Here's a secret I want to share with you in order to succeed here in Steemit.  THERE IS NO SECRET.

And the rewards you dream about, well, they are simply... dreams, until YOU, not anyone else, make them real.

Steemit is REAL. No doubt about it. And the reality is, you don't always get what you expect. You get what Steemit thows at you. Deal with it as graciously as you can, as wise as you can be. Because reality... sometimes it bites. Be ready to suck it all up and embrace the pain.

To wrap it all up, Steemit is real but it's not a "get-rich-quick" scheme. It's not a scam, in case someone tells you that it is.  There is great promise. Yet there is work to be done. Finally, Steemit is a great platform and you did the right thing joining in. Maybe one of the best decisions you have ever made in your life. So. Steem On!

Just Being Real,

@cjclaro

Yeah, people need to get real and face reality. Not everything in life is made to cater to your demands and expectations. Work, put out quality content, and maybe eventually you get recognized, or else don't. A large pat is luck. It's not a job where you get paid everyday for doing tasks a boss gives you. You have to make your own way yourself, even if some people are more popular and do less quality work than you. Hopefully, time will judge the best quality and you will get recognized.

Take care. Peace.

The promise of eanings and rewards of Steemit seems to get misinterpreted by some. Nothing comes easy in this planet except maybe the air we breathe, but even that may not be so easy to find in some places..

You have to give in order to receive. And it's not only that, you have to give quality merchandise to demand higher price. Then there's the competition. Is your product better than anyone else? Does your product offer something more than just the product itself. It's not different here in Steemit. You've got to find your niche market, the right product to offer to the right people. Then there's the policies that governs the community. So many things to factor in, just like in life.

Dantheman voted you but the rewards did not even reach $20. You are right, theres so much things to do in the platform before you can start to earn good rewards.

He did, glad to be noticed. And @dantheman just made my point clearer here. You deal what Steemit throws at you. You don't complain. You move on. You make the best of what you get. That's life. That's reality.

I think a "thank you" is in order for @dantheman for the upvote. Thanks!

You right, we are here at our own free will, nobody force us to join. It's just right not to force them to vote for us.

This is true.

No lies there. Some necessary truth. Persistence and continued improvement is the road.

You can say that, again @tee-em ;-)

Great heart-breaking post for newbie Steemers who have false expectations. I am going to bookmark this to show to anyone who wants to just join in and expect the money to flow right in.

It's not my intention to break anyone's heart. Don't get me wrong. I'd rather that people know the truth and reality of Steemit than get blindsided by "false expectations" like you said. I stand by my word that Steemit is a great platform and joining in is a very good decision new members are going to make. I just want them to be mature and knowledgeable in their approach to being a Steemit member. It's not always sunny in Steemit City. Newbies must know and understand that.

Although I took 4 semesters of Spanish during my college years, the language never really sank into my system. But I have google to help me out with translation. And I thank you @jlufer for your kinds words. Yes, Steemit has great things to offer, if we work hard on it, be wise with it, and to be resilient until we succeed. Take @markmorrisjr 's advice. You will never go wrong!

Hasta la vista, baby! - That's Arnold Schwarzenneger talking, not me ;-)

I came with no audience to speak of, no "ass"etts, have not been flagged, earned small rewards from the beginning. And there is a secret, post stuff people want to read, well written, cleanly presented and consistently. It's not that hard.

Of course, there's always a secret LOL. @markmorrisjr I have also been following some of your work and they're very good work. and I totally agree with you about ...

post stuff people want to read, well written, cleanly presented and consistently.

And that's a secret everybody should learn from. Clear as it can ever be. Thanks!

It is the entire premise of any free market venture. You have to meet a demand, you cannot demand the market meet you.

I love this post, wonderfully written and the 'flaggots' bit made me giggle! Thank you :)

I'm glad you love the post. And your kind words are greatly appreciated. I read about the "flaggots" from someone else's post. I thought the term was cool, too!

Gotta love the flaggots on Steemit!

@cjclaro Thanks upvoted. It's funny but we have a large following on other channels, and it was great for a while. But now they just use our hard work and content, and expect us to pay them. If steemit can be integrated into a wordpress plugin that would make us very happy.

There was someone working on a "steempress" app. It wasn't a plugin that I know of, but it created a wordpress feel on a Steemit blog, I believe. I agree, if I could integrate my other blogs here, I'd be in heaven.

Thanks for the upvote ;-)

I'm pretty sure someone is making that Steemit plug-in for wordpress as we speak. I know Joomla has one. Steemit is open source I believe and that wordpress plug-in should not be difficult to make. Yes, it sure would be nice to have that plug in.

Very INFORMATIVE.

Thanks for sharing this one!!!
