RE: Very Serious Question FOR DTube & Steemit - Posting Mainstream Media Content on DTube?

in #steemit7 years ago (edited)

Hey man,

A couple notes:

  1. You might want to be careful with using the name DNews because I know that Digital Discovery had a previous Youtube channel called DNews (now called Seeker) so I would review copyright laws with it.
  2. Bringing in mainstream content would work fabulously with Dtube if the content was centralized and controlled but with this platform being the opposite, you can run into issues of monetization. If I were to post the entire Frozen Disney movie and earn revenue from it (even if its cryptocurrency), there is liability for copyright because they earned money off of their content.
  3. When it would come into lawsuit, how would courts define the proper fine or punishment for it? Although we put set dollar amounts on our videos representing SBD or Steem, how would it translate to fiat? If the currency grows in value, does it escalate with it or is it based on the snapshot of when it was finished monetizing?

Overall, the platform would have to naturally and organically grow similar to how youtube started in its early days. Basic original content would have to be uploaded and influencers would have to come out to represent the platform. When it comes to legal matters, youtube took on the role of having the influencers become part of the organization since they have the ability to control their content. In this case, I think individual posters would have to take on copyright issues individually since the platform is not directly controlling the content. The people are.

Just putting it out there

Hey Chris (hey I've actually seen one of your videos! It's nice to connect :)

Okay, I'll reply per number (haha)

  1. First of all - thank you for letting me know! You're awesome. Do you think I can get away with it if I change it to "DTube News" instead of just DNEWS? Since they're called Seeker now - do you think that still applies, bro?
  2. Interesting perspective! That's exactly one of the angles I was looking at as well.
  3. Yeah, there would definitely need to be a president set on those things, man.

Thanks so much for an amazing insight bro. Upvoted you with some love @chrispy99

Hi,

Yeah, I think calling it Dtube News is a better choice. It’s more defined and less risk of it becoming liable for copyright. A bigger issue I forgot to mention for this platform is defining copyright with blended content. If someone outright posts videos that aren’t theirs, then it’s a clear answer but if it’s content with commentary, where’s the line. YouTube struggles with this constantly.

Just changed it! Lol

Yeah that's very true about YT. Not consistent. Probably because they have AI bots just demonetizing everyone.
