Why do Olympians bite their medals?
A few weeks ago the world got frenzy because of the Rio 2016 Olympic games. Everybody is supporting their favourite athletes and each country is expecting as many gold medals as it is possible. But what happens when an athlete is standing on the winner's platform and holding their prizes? Olympians bite their medals.
There are two main widely spread around the globe reasons for that:
1. Photographers ask Olympians to bite their medals for a better shot.
Who wants to see a winner just smiling and being stiff? No one! Everybody wants some show and winners have caught that habit of biting medals to satisfy photojournalists taking victory photos.
2. To make sure that gold medal is made from precious metal.
When the Olympic Games started biting medal was a commonly spread practice. Winners used to do that to check if medal was genuine. It is known that precious metals are soft, so whenever you bite it, you would be able to see you teeth print on the medal.

Because all Olympians have went through that training to know the exact softness of metal with their teeth... lol
I have no doubt. Some years ago there was an incident that one Olympian broke her teeth trying to bite a medal. She might expected to find some chocolate inside or something lol
They must be hungry after competing! Need more trace medals in their diet.
That seems to complete they well-balanced diet. It is a pretty strange tradition. Why they do not kiss their arm or leg muscles instead? :D
