I feel like this is a really good idea! I think the reasoning behind having a top trending tag is because most social media sites have them so they're trying to keep the same features. Since we want unique, varying posts on SteemIt, would be better off taking that away.
That's a good point.
And even if we still want to be a little bit similar to other social media sites in order to ease the transition for new users, we can at least present the trending tags in some random order so that it's not that obvious which of them are the top tags.
