Different Rabbit Breeds
You can have seen rabbits in all different colors and sizes. Although all domesticated rabbits came in the European rabbit, different rabbit breeds can be found. As they can differ in needs and temperaments, here's a short description of majority of the breeds.
The breeds included here aren't recognised by all rabbit associations, thus aren't eligible breeds for showing, dependant upon your location. The list of strains are from the ARBA and the BRC. The max weights said are there for reference only. These are max weights for display rabbits and animals bred for pets may not necessarily comply with these maximums.
Dwarf Rabbit Breeds - This class of rabbits are those which you'd have likely seen on small cards and calendars. They aren't all recognised as breeds, but they're popular little rabbits. When buying a dwarf rabbit, one has to be careful as there's been cases where pet stores do not know the parents of the bunnies and the dwarf bunny turns out to possess pets that are stressed, and may grow to a large size. Dwarf breeds are regarded as under 1.81kg and almost all them take a dwarfing gene with the exclusion of the Britannia Petite.
American Fuzzy Lop max 1.60 kg - Recognized by ARBA, this is a stunt strain that has a wool like angora. They're fluffy small rabbits with a social nature. They enjoy focus and work well with individuals alongside other rabbits. American Fuzzy Lop Rabbit Club -
Britannia Petite maximum 1.20 kg - This breed of bunny is among the lightest in the category. They make bad pets for kids as without the proper handling, they're more inclined to nip. These rabbits may be pets. Nevertheless, they're less forgiving if you don't use really a positive approach to training them.
Britannia Petites are incredibly active and require plenty of room for exercise.
Dwarf Hotots are white together with a line of black around the eyes, like eyeliner.
They're very small and compact bunnies.
