800 Followers and a Change in Focus

in #steemit9 years ago

I’ve been on Steemit now for about 5 months and it has been a bit of a grind but I’m finally getting the hang of it. I closed out 2017 by breaking the 800 followers mark, which is a bit of an odd number to celebrate and I don’t normally celebrate milestones…but what the hell, it is the time of year to be celebrating right!

This year I am going to try and post a bit more frequently and while I will still make the odd post about Cryptos, I am going to focus a bit more on Precious Metals – which is one of my favourite investments that had taken a bit of a back seat in 2017 when the Crypto mania started to take hold.

If you’ve been reading my blog you’ll know I have been very publically easing off on my Crypto investments lately and renewing some of my interest in the shiny stuff so you can expect a bit more of that going forward. I am a member of the #steemsilvergold group here on Steemit and also very active within the community on the Australian Precious Metals forum www.silverstackers.com which is where a lot of nice coins and bars are traded on the secondary market. I highly recommend any Aussies or Kiwis here on Steemit to check it out.

I hope you have all had a great festive season and I look forward to a prosperous New Year for all!

Congrats on the 800!

I too have been switching back and forth between PMs and Crypto. 2017's massive crypto run-up will be funding 2018's massive silver buying spree!!!

Thanks. Sounds like we have a few things in common. Great minds think alike! :)

I've had a long interest in metals but have never invested. I actually used to work in the gold industry, at a time when gold was booming. It was fantastic to watch the rise of gold and silver at this time and I can absolutely see it happening again.

I actually worked on a few gold mines and it was quite surreal handling millions of dollars worth of the stuff and literally watching people walk into the office carrying stuff they'd just pulled out of a wall underground.

These days there aren't many mines where you can pull nuggets out of the wall, all the gold is blended with other rock so it needs to be chemically extracted.

Anyway, I love precious metals and would be very keen to start investing in them. I'll follow your future posts closely (it's nice to see another fellow Australian here by the way). :)

Sounds like you would have some really good stories to tell yourself if you want to write about it then add the #steemsilvergold tag and you're bound to get a bunch of gold bugs reading! Also, #teamaustralia is worth joining if you haven't already. There are Aussies all over this place!

I have joined #teamaustralia. :)

I'll have a think about what stories I can tell about the mining sector. It did take up the better part of 10 years of my life.

Sounds good to me. Followed!

You inspired me. I’m halfway through a post about my first experience in mining. :D

I was throwing around the idea of buying opals in Coober Pedy and selling them for steem, but it's hard to objectively determine the value of any given opal (they lack fungibility).
The only other valuable thing we have lots of here in South Australia is uranium.
Not sure how Aust Post would feel about that one.

Depending on whereabouts in SA you are I'd be stacking Shiraz for sure. Add 10 or 20 years to some of those Barossa Valley grapes and I'm sure you'd have plenty of takers in the crypto world. After all, we need something decent to celebrate our success with, right?

Nice. I'm much closer to Mclaren Vale; but my father in law knows his reds.
Excellent call.

Haha. I could just imagine what the media would do with you if you started selling uranium for crypto. 😜

Opals could be a interesting one. You’re right about their value though. Mining them sucks too. Plus you’d have to go to Coober pedy. That place is awful.

A Diamond - A girl's best friend.
An Opal - someone went to Coober Pedy for it.

anyway to join the steemsilvergold? five months in and you are way better than were I am lol. Congrats. Hope you do even better 2018 ;) Thanks.

You should definitely follow @silvergoldbotty who posts daily about the #steemsilvergold community and also supports it with upvotes.

I'm not at Steemit often enough. Too busy trading in the crypto market during my free time :) But I do check on things occasionally. And you are definitely progressing well. Congratulations on that.

"Grind it"... Yeah, this aptly describes the Steemit process for newcomers in trying to create a presence and enough visibility. When one has that, his posts will garner enough revenue to make the effort worthwhile. In this sense, you appear to be making it, based on this post. Keep it up.

In my case, it seems that I should focus on commenting for now. Some of the upvotes have been encouraging. Not a lot, but enough to keep me interested in this platform.

Thanks. Getting the big upvotes is really tough, I have to admit. I do use the odd vote bot to try and push up my visibility but you can't rely on that alone. Plenty of people use vote bots to push up poor content so it is important to get some good content if you're going to push up your post or you wont attract any new votes.

Gongrats mate! I've learned quite a few things from your posts. Look forward to finding out what the deal is with these precious metals.

Thanks @christosthegreek I will do my best to explain things. Though I get the impression I will be preaching to the choir as I know you are pretty sharp on the investments front.

PS - You should post more!

Is it a great time to buy into gold now? Not sure, I don't follow metal stocks? Cheers, keep blogging!

Well, I am not a financial adviser so I will give you a cagey response.....it is always a good time to diversify your investments. If you're not holding any precious metals then it is a very good diversification for any portfolio because it is uncorrelated to many other investments ;)

great post. I am new and also a silver bug. I see a good year for the metals. Dollar has been loosing steam since 2017 1st quarter.

Indeed. Gold just cracked $1300 USD again and that's been a key level, so it could be a very good year.

Congratulations! I'm a month in and appreciate "the grind":) I guess it's about becoming a member of a community that's important; and I must say, the community here overall is very welcoming!!

It took me a while to figure out which way was UP, but it's worth persisting. Not everything here is as perfect as it seems, but all you need is the good to outweigh the bad and you are having a net positive experience.

Thank you; yes, I've explored enough to see the squabbling and nonsense that is a part of every 'community'. I've had enough life experience to weed all that out! I'm an optimist, so I can easily see more good than bad. Thanks for the reply!

Nice one, at list there is something to celebrate, five months steeming, 800 plus followers. More success to you this year. Happy new year.

Thanks. Really appreciate your support!

I’ll need to check that out. I recently acquired a few pieces of silver so I think the bug might bite once I get back home and get them in my hands!

Careful the fever doesn't get you. You don't want to end up like Thorin ;)
