❗❗❗ A call for help to our community to help steemitusers ❗❗❗

in #steemit7 years ago

Hello friends,

In my last post I mentioned the subject I want to discuss with you already. I think we need to start discussing this matter with the whole community to see how big the problem is, what we can do about this and if it is something we need to do with a hardfork or it might be something we need to solve as a community by making posts about it and changing the mentality on steemit!

What seems to be the problem?

It seems to be a group of things that lead to the problem.
What I noticed from my own experience and research is that people who joined steemit in 2016 are very close and upvoting, if not automaticly upvoting eachother. There is nothing wrong in this. But people who joined after 2016 so in 2017 are trying hard to make content that is in many cases much more informative or atleast equally then some post that people make, and I wont say any names, who are here from the beginning and don't even earn 20 cents with it. It seem to be a core-group who make eachother richer and richer and because of they give eachother already arounbd 80-100$ on their post, all the smaller fish see them in trendingsection and their vote also going to that post. In alot of cases the post is about something stupid with not much effort in it, almost like 'let's make another quick post today because we earn atleast 80-130$ with it'.

I don't wanna sound like I don't want those people to earn alot. What I do wanna adress to the community is following:
Alot of people join, do their best for some time to write alot of interesting stuff for alot of people and do not get noticed at all. No wonder people leave steemit and even if the total amount of accounts is rising, the amount of active user in % of that is not growing equally along. Everyone we lose because they have the feeling that it did not work even if they did alot of efforts wont bring in any other users aswell. I don't have to explain to you how you easily lose like the half of active users we could have had. If you go further in time we are speaking of more then double and this could also mean alot pricedifference for the steemcoin.

We should all be doing more effort to reward content, also from users who are still unknown in the community, with upvotes and resteems if we like their content and if you think they earn your reward. By this we stimulate the community in a very positive way. People get noticed, know when they put efforts in it they get rewarded and that they can make a difference.

I think alot of it has not only to do with the core-group 2016 like I call them but also with the fact that alot of big players delegate their power to boosters and upvotebots. People are forced to buy their way into the hotsection (go take a look their and you'll see a very huge amount of hotsection-post are their because of a booster or upvotebot) and it even doesnt make a big difference. I do it for months now. Do they get ever more then 50 cents extra by being in the hotsection?
Take a closer look, do some research or try it yourself for a few weeks, I can tell you it doesnt almost make a difference.
Rarely it makes a difference.

It think it is our responsibility as a community to not look away from this and actively trying to change the spirit in a posivite way. Meaby by putting more effort in looking for qualitycontent and for new writers that are worth to earn your vote instead of always doing the same thing for the same people. Steemit and yes steem would benefit from this approach. If only 5-10 people would do this it probably wont make a difference. But if those 5-10 people would write about this and spread the word, and the whole community would be activated by this guideline we could bring steemit to better grounds!!

My intention is to get some people to read my post, spread the idea and hopefully cause a chainreaction. I hear alot of people complaining, but let's all motivate eachother to handle a different approach with out steempower and influence!

In my last post @apolymask made a comment, I will paste it here:

Good thoughts.. I especially agreed with this part.

A call for help to our users
I noticed it is very hard to get some upvotes on posts, even if you put efforts in it. Most of my rewards you see in my blogpage are higher numbers because I use upvoteservices and boosters. Even when you use a booster to boost it to 30$ you wouldnt make an ectra dollar from upvotes. It seems like all people who are able to upvote, sell their votes or just autovote on people from before 2017 who are the core-group and it are these guys who always have like 100-250$ rewards and all the others make posts , put alot of efforts in it and still get as low as 30 cents on their posts!
I expect the number of active users to drop significantly and new users wont stay very long because they put alot of efforts in it and no-one notices you. I wonder how little people there are who are accualy ddoing efforts to search for content, also between the newer people and reward them for it..
I'm someone who has experienced both worlds TO AN EXTENT. When I post my photography I'm able to bring in some pretty good rewards ranging from $10 to over $100.. Yet.. Almost everything else I post is like around a dollar or less, and.. I am one of the people who has been here for a long time. I am getting close to 2000 followers.. Yet.. It feels pretty lame when I see bigger names making a lot of money every single day on "shit posts"... And then some that I put a lot of time into, that is like.. Unusual or rare information.. It's pretty much overlooked.. It is very frustrating. AND.. I imagine it's like.. 100 times harder for a lot of new people who are trying to get started here..

In fact I've seen a number of my personal friends I invited over here sort of get discouraged right away and stop posting because it wasn't worth it to them.. So.. I think you're really onto somethign important here.. They need to keep working on preventing the "whales" and favored people from becoming the basic 1%.. A similar thing is playing out on here as in the real world, and certain people are just getting WAAAAYYYYYYYY more than their fair share so to speak.

That is my opinion. I'm not claiming it as fact, though.. It seems clear that if you network with the right influential people, you will make way more money even if your content sucks. Lol. Meanwhile people with great content flounder because all the attention goes to the "celebrities" so to speak and not necessarily to the people putting out great content.

I'm not sure how much they can really do about this, it's similar to what happens in real life, people who network together and work together, excel even if they put out shitty work, but they do well just because they network and connect with others and sort of.. "game" the system. It's sad and unfortunate.. But I dunno what we can do..

Glad you mentioned it though! I may want to touch more on this subject in the future, cause I think you're addressing something really critical and important.

How is steemit going to grow really big and appeal to almost everyone, if.. You have a basic echo chamber of group "elite" masturbation keeping things sort of "sealed off" at the top, while the people who genuinely want to engage get peanuts and then get so discouraged they just quit?

you can already help to upvote, resteem this post and for sure to leave a comment about what you think about this and how you would solve this issue. Do you recognize what I say? What do you think needs to be done? Will spreading the word and counting on the goodwill of the community be enough? Or do we need some kind of hardfork?

Sort:

I can only agree with you that the people newly joining in are less renown on the platform and get much less visibility as there is, in deed, a lot of crypto-nepetisism most possibly costing the platform a load of new users leaving us... In itself, it is already a concern really worth talking about. As soon as this problem showed up, I think the appearance of curation crews here and there, backed up by whales started to make a huge difference, as long as the curation is not bot based. This way, the platform moves toward more and more quality as time goes, though time is of the essence in this matter. May the "Mother of All Virtues", patience, be of help for the ones thinking of leaving and may they persist in their determination to create quality posts for us all and beyond to enjoy. They will get recognized sooner or later.

I have seen monumental goodwill within the community here on Steemit and can't help but think that this is what makes it worth being here the very most. The tokens have been a greta incentive on many levels, but this willingness in sharing the wealth based on a quality we all need for this platform to stay sustainable and grow in this fashion is the number one mandatory requisite and, this, takes time.

Thanks for exposing the situations you are referring to us here in your quality article, you sure deserve the upvote and resteem! Namaste :)

This post is doing well for you...nice job. I agree with what you're saying though. It is frustrating putting in time to write up something and it quickly gets lost in the mix with only a handful of views.

Great post my friend well done

more and more info like this needs to be put out there. it can only help our community here on steemit. I have always said you help the minnows you will gain lifetime followers and contributors.

Nyc Article!! Thnx for sharing!! Namaste!!

well, I've given you my cent, and honestly hope it does you good, not sure what the boosters are. Anyway, I don't think is too much of a problem, but we do need to work through different topics and come to the community in a diversified way in my opinion, so that we are able to curate in a way that improves everyones' steem.

if users who have large voting, will judge all good postings, it may be easier for small fish growing, my experience during di steemit, small fish only hope to the owner of steeemit application.while big fish just play fellow with big fish only. maybe if all posts are not possible, because too many, but can be filtered matching get it.

Thank you.
