Steemit 24hr active user figure keeps declining but total user number keeps rising?

Churn
Over the last 2 weeks I observed the short term active user numbers grinding down, although only by a couple of hundred, while there is a continuous healthy amount of sign ups. Either there is a lot of churn or something is up with the table at: https://steemd.com/distribution
Anyone have a refreshing view on these stats?

It looks like the amount of spam is declining, which is good. Less is more. At the same time, the amount of comments has stayed nearly the same, which means more comments per post on average. Also if there is less introduce posts and plagiarism, bots are less active, so "real" comments are probably on the rise, which means more participation and more valuable discussions.

I expect some of those accounts were bots which have lost their reputation and thus cannot upvote

Probably older people becoming less active or leaving together with new people bouncing.

Maybe there is some kind of resignation from authors who feel they don't earn enough for what they written

maybe it's just holiday season and or people having a digital detox
