The Difference Between THEIR, THERE and THEY'RE
Sometimes, many of us regard grammar as a spiteful inconvenience, do we really need more pauses, stops and exclamations in life? Luckily for us, we can now often get our messages across with the simple use of emoticons (thumbs-up emoji). But, when the yellow critters don’t suffice, then it’s time to pull out those punctuation marks and correct your spelling, like it or not.
Grammar has been put into place to help us get our messages across and to communicate effectively. While it seems like a schlep, try imaging the chaos that would unfold without it! @ArbitraryKitten ‘s post Let’s Eat Steemitzens elaborates on this (wink emoji).
So, in an effort to help you on your Steemit journey and to encourage you to write posts that are perfectly composed, I’m here to help you, bit by bit, tip by tip. I’m @sweetpea, a proud @blue-pencil editor.
Let’s Talk About THEIYR’RE
I wouldn’t classify myself as belonging to the Grammar Police Force, but there is one common mistake that irks me, one that I used to make all too often myself. But now I know! There, their and they’re. These words sound the same, they are pronounced the same, but all three words have different meanings!
Their, There, and They're. The trio of their, there, and they're can flummox writers of all levels. It's confusing; they are homophones, meaning they have the same pronunciation but differ in meaning and derivation. - http://www.dictionary.com/e/their-there-theyre/
Let’s explore the correct usages of the three words:
THEIR is the possessive case of the pronoun they, for instance "They were happy to move into their new home." Their is generally used as a plural, but it can be used to refer to a singular too, by replacing his or her, for example: "Someone left their puppy locked outside."
THERE is similar to the word here and represents a place. There can be used as both an adverb and a pronoun. For example: "Look over there!" (used as an adverb) and "There is still a chance." (used as a pronoun).
THEY'RE is the shortening of the phrase they are. For instance: "They're learning the difference between the three homophones!"

If you hit a blank when trying to determine which one of the "theiyr'res" to use, try remember these 3 "hacks":
Their has the word heir in it, which can act as a reminder that the term indicates possession.
There has the word here in it. There is the choice when talking about places, whether figurative or literal.
They’re has an apostrophe, which means it’s the product of two words: they are. If you can substitute they are into your sentence and retain the meaning, then they’re is the correct homophone to use!
Thank you dictionary.com for these handy tips!
Still unsure about their, there and they're?
