A Tiny Awesome Milestone

Steemit can be a tough place at times. Trust me...I know. I get the same “Steemit Blues” as everyone else from time to time. When I post a piece I’m really proud of just for it to bring in .43 cents. It sucks, but then again I think to myself...where else was I receiving ANY reward before this place for my input?!? That helps bring me back to reality and ground me a bit. I’m not a published author so the fact that anybody here actually cares to read my thoughts is amazing...and oddly enough, those people exist here! That’s exciting.

Know what else is exciting? Having someone else recognize your hard work. While these Isolated stats may seem meaningless in the grand scheme of things, I do feel they are important. Especially for relatively new blood such as myself.

This is now the second time in the past couple weeks that I’ve been mentioned in a piece by @boddhisattva. He runs and showcases all different stats and metrics regarding the Steemit platform. In the one below, it focuses on the TOP 200 effective Steemit сurators that encouraged discussion for the last week (2018.07.23-2018.07.30).

Looking at the list of amazing users on this list that inspire me here, it’s an honor to be on this small sample with them. A few that I converse with or look up to here such as @anomadsoul, @slobberchops, @crypto2crypto, @whatsup, @socky, @steevc, @acidyo, @tarazkp, & so many more. I’ve always thought that it was great how they not only got back to me when I made the efforts to reach out to them but they did that for most comments. In most cases, they also upvoted the user commenting and initiating dialogue.

Okay...so I barely made the top 200, coming in at #195...but that’s still fairly impressive and should be a lesson to new users. I’ve only been here for 4 months and while I still struggle, I feel as though I’ve made great strides. I’m learning daily here and that is what’s important.

One thing I like doing for several reasons is upvote ANY person that leaves a comment on any piece of mine. Not only does this let me know that I took a look at that comment but also that I responded to it. It’s easy for things to get lost in the shuffle here so that helps me out while also throwing an Upvote to the other user. Every cent counts! If it’s just usual banter it’ll be the minimum but if it’s a killer comment for whatever reason, I’ll throw a bit more weight behind it. Depends...

Here @arseniclullaby left a comment on a piece about an artist we both like. While that upvote might not seem like a lot...I do that for EVERY comment. It adds up...believe me. Also if they are engaging with a bunch of folks here and they have the same mentality, that’s going to add up to a nice chunk of rewards for comments.

I think commenting is a feature that kind of gets lost or forgotten by new users. It’s extremely important. You can’t just wait for an audience to magically find you on your posts. Won’t happen. Go out there and find like minded people or folks you want to converse with...and well...converse!!

My pieces may not earn a bunch as of yet but go backtrack through my posts. You’ll notice that they are getting folks talking. That’s super rewarding in itself.

There’s also @dustsweeper which I think we all should be supporting. It helps get those small votes to .02 so that it actually end up in your wallet and not turned to...well...dust. It’s a fantastic program run by @davemccoy & @danielsaori. The kickass logo was designed by @charisma777. Please check it out if you haven’t already as it’s extremely important in helping new users who depend on each and every cent.

All in all I just want to preach to anyone out there that getting dialogue going is ALWAYS going to end up benefiting not only those conversing...but the entire platform as a whole. The more people we have here taking an actual interest in others works and discussing it, the better and stronger we all are. Reward those who make the effort and comment on your posts. It encourages folks that they might be doing something right and the cycle goes on and on.

What’s your thoughts folks? Do you initiate enough? Do you reward those who reach out to you and genuinely make an effort? Let me know in the comments below.

Thanks for posting these types of articles @boddhisattva. They inspire me!!!

I do my best to reward those who interact. A 3-cent upvote is my minimum for a comment (that way it automatically earns curation value for anyone else who upvotes it), though it may take a day or two for me to get to comments. I read them all. My SP is too low right now to give upvotes on literally everything though, or I'd run myself dry. I usually tag the initial comment and then the first response as well unless there's a great running dialog going. Lots of little 2-3 cent votes handed out then. :)

Congrats on your achievement, by the way! Encouraging dialog and conversation among the rest of the platform is super awesome, and only serves to grow the little folks. :)

Thank you kind sir!!

Yeah it just helps me so I know who I respond to. I kinda do the same thing that you do which is let the responses pile up a day or two worth and then blast em out.

Have you checked out @abh12345's engagement league?

I reckon you'd rank pretty reasonably in there if you join too.

I have t but I just left a comment there to enter. Sounds fun and interesting. Gives me more motivation...or sets me up for ridicule. Either way it makes for a great story!!!

Thx for the info on that. You rule!!

Glad you found some potential in it. I've been in it for a while, never near the top, but it certainly helped with my engagement levels in the early days when I was finding my feet.

Yeah. I think it’s just another thing to strive towards. Another motivating factor. I’m all for that!!!

Good job mate. I find that supporting the comments section is a great way to help people grow and, understand the importance of engagement. It also seems to connect people up. A lot of people don't realise how important the space under the post is.

Thank you brother!!

Yeah it’s definitely an aspect I feel gets overlooked...especially by new users. Folks just come in swinging and pop up some posts and think that they are going to magically have a following waiting for them. It takes a lot of work. I commented a lot of random posts if i had something of merit to say.

That’s the other orovlem...those who just spam comment on posts with shitty generic responses. Ugh. Lol

It is a competitive environment and is only going to get more so. Many play numbers games, I play quality. To each there own.

Word! You’ve been here for some time @tarazkp...how are the engagement levels now compared to day, this time last year??

That's a big feat getting into the top 200 you should be proud for sure!
You work very hard, although you know what, you don't make it sound hard your writing style is very "natural" :)

I appreciate the kind words!!! Although I have to admit that I don’t even think i have a style. I feel like I’m kinda all over the place here. Some days I’m educational. Some days sentimental. Some days raunchy. Oh my god...I’m bipolar...

Just human! lol
I know, that destroys your superhero fantasy.

Good post - and well worth reminding everyone! (including myself).

I'm similar to yourself - i.e totally new also.

Keep posting, and keep commenting, and it does reap it's own rewards!

Thank you very much!

Yeah it’s totally important and has helped me build plenty of relationships here. Be it me reaching out to others or vice versa. It does take work and effort though but is so rewarding when you finally break through and make a friend out of it.

You are welcome, my friend! 8)
Good luck and success for you on that way!

Thank you!!! Always so happy when I make your lists. Lol

I know it’s silly and in the grand scheme of things is really nothing, but what you do helps push me to strive to be better so thank you!

I am so behind on things because of lack of internet I been connected again for just over a month and I am still trying to catch up. I am hoping to be curating content more in the coming weeks. I have a few more days of go go go then I think things will calm down a bit and I can get back to curating content.

Falling behind is the worst. Right? Lol.

I’d like to be a bit more proactive in curating good quality articles. Time is the big issue. Why can’t this fame crypto take off so I can focus on writing!!! Lol

Oh on a differebt note I totally forgot to tell you, I got your envelope!!!! It was sliced open on the side. A perfect slice. Not a rip or tear. I saved it at home to show you the pic and I’ve just been forgetting. Bottle opener totally missing!! Nutty! People suck. Lol.

It is the worst.
And damn that sucks wtf I guess next time prizes go out insured. When I get another it is yours.

No need to send another. I appreciate it regardless. I have a sweet Galactus bottle opener on my fridge so I’m all good. Just thought you should know. Stupid postal service!!!

Thank you for the resteem @charisma777!!! You are a rock star!

No problem, that's how I roll😎🎸

Rock on with yer bad self!
