Why I Stopped Blogging and Started To Steem InsteadsteemCreated with Sketch.

About 2 months ago I signed up for Steemit (a bit late to the party - but better late then never right?!) and decided I would start blogging about what I normally would post on my blog at SeanSupplee.com

The major reason behind this was lack of views on my blog. It takes some major effort to get search engine traffic to a blog anymore and this is one area where steemit seriously thrives right now. Back in the day we use to do article marketing to try and get traffic from a high ranks PR site over to our blogs and offers. This worked for some time till Google put the slap on us and now that Steemit is here I have to say it brings in some seriously good numbers!

While most steemians go for followers on steemit and upvotes they are missing a huge potential and that is getting your SEO right to drive massive amounts of traffic to your posts. After starting to do this many of my older posts now have over 500 views and I will be ramping up my SEO efforts from now on.

There are some things I miss about directly sending traffic to my blog such as collecting email address and building followers on other social media platforms but right now steemit is honestly to good to pass up. One of the big things that lead me to this decision was view other large blogs where losing readership, new traffic and their Alexa ranks where falling week after week.

I think the reason Steemit works so well is because of the quality and quantity of its users. There are only 300k of us, and most of us like to look at original, authentic content.

If Steemit ever goes mainstream, I think it won't work that much better than other social networks.

Yup it is why it is very trusted on search engines right now but there has been a recent ramp up of some bad eggs that are damaging the sites rep and we need to stick together to protect that.

Yeah if the spammers become the thing that shows on search results it will have a bad effect on the site's search ranking and reputation

me too, steem it and the community is just amazing, i love this place! steem on

Seriously awesome community of people

I did the same, just starting here. I do art and crafts and write about my projects on my blog. I hope this place will bring me additional stream of income at some stage so I can free myself from dayjob!

Just stick with it and commenting on others posts with valuable info was a huge pump in followers for me.

I completely agree. I'm using steemit to send traffic to all my other places. I have a six year old brand with close to 4000 pieces of content on about 10 platforms.

In 8 weeks - traffic is up everywhere I have posted about here. I have many posts to come that will summarize what I have out there in various ways. I'm so excited! Steemit is a huge boost to my internet presence when I was dying on the vine before this.

WooHoo!

I almost didn't want to say anything because it seriously is a new gold mine for us marketers and small business owners lol. Very cool to see others doing it as well such as yourself. Keep striving and being better every day :)

The thing is - we need more like us. They are boosting the Alexa by voting each other's crap posts at the top end. 50 words - no seo and it gets Aleza and Moz due to the interaction of 200+ people voting and commenting.

I think 60- 80% of the ranking comes from that top-level churning and the rest of it from the killer content down below.

We need more content creators who
-. create excellent content

  • know seo
  • have a message besides cyrpto and what they ate etc
  • will do all this work for cheap now in order to get their message out.

I'm trying to find them here and help them as I can. No reason to recruit when they land here in droves and then give up. These crypto people do not believe I came for the Alexa ranking. As you know I am not the only one by far.

Many people have only steemit content and so they have a "Steemit" profile only on google. Those of us who create content have all the other channels and look more reputable to the outside world.

Reputation here is good for money. Reputation out there is good for traffic to the site. I don't want this place to die so I'm doing what I can :)

Yeah I have noticed a select few from auto votes that get crazy high numbers for honestly pure crap posts its a shame honestly auto voting needs to be tossed out

That's a whole other project! We can only do what we can do to promote the good stuff.

Dare I say you found me? :)

I'd like to think the bulk of the content I produce is of at least passable quality.

I'm totally in this for all it's worth to my blog/brand in general. I look forward to the traffic churn you guys are talking about. My measly site could certainly use it.

What message do you put out? If you are on Twitter, I've got some churn happening over there with 80+ steemers now. We are getting attention with our good looking tweets. On steemit for me - it's pretty much about the commenting and replying and trying to connect. The weekly colorchallenges and things like that are good too.

I blog about music, art and literature. I'm on Twitter. Where are you guys hanging out on there? :)

Steemit has so much potential. I want to see it succeed.

I have this twit list and if you just tweet anything off of it I will see you and get you it. Then you can follow all those people. There's more than 90 now.

Post "How To" posts in your genres and that's the best bet, I think.

I agree - huge potential here.

Ok, I'll see what I can do.

Thanks for the advice. I'll focus a bit on how-to posts for a while and see where it leads me.

This is true, thanks for explanation..
