How to transfer steem / power up or whatever you name it

in #steemit8 years ago

I'm trying to figure out what to do to make steemit work again. And it's far from intuitive.

I have
0.002 STEEM
0.977 STEEM POWER
$2.039 STEEM Dollars

I guess i need to increase the STEEM value.

But when i try, i'm not getting there.

After some reading it looks like i need to use the Power-up button. It doesn't make sense but OK I try
Then i need to enter 'some value'

BUT that 'value' does not say anything about any other 'value' that it will cost.
If anything costs anything then i would expect to see a price tag, and have some insight on what is leaving from my wallet and what i get in return before i enter a password

And then password....

I tried to make a transfer of 'some value' but whatever passkey i try master, private, public, posting, active, memo, whatever key i tried, non of them is accepted.
Is there any other key that i don't know about?

It would make far more sense to make this intuitive instead of creating a shitload of video's that 'try' to explains 'something' that's just not clear.

Now i can imagine that it can't be easy to make this intuitive. But this is only one option. And look how many options there are!!!!

Transer, buy, saving, power up, withdraw, sell.

This is not clear at all.

And meanwhile the entire site is unusable.
I can't take part in any conversation to get informed about this issue. I have to wait 2 days to get enough bandwidth to even post this article. And then i probably don't have enough bandwidth to answer eventual follow ups.

Meanwhile i'm also loosing track of articles that i was involved with.

Nothing makes any sense right now.

You first get locked out, but you must get in before you can fix anything. Then you get in, you can try one thing, and you get locked out AGAIN.

I'll keep trying.

I just had to vent some steem...

Sort:

You need to go to your wallet and click the little tab next to the value of your Steem Dollars ($2.039).
It will open up a list, from that list select "market", click on it.
It will open the market page. The right hand side of the page is where you will sell your steem dollars for SBD.
Type in the amount you want to sell and click the button below the entry , it says "Sell Steem"
This will prompt a sell order in the system, before it will place the sell order a new page will open with your user name and ask for your key to complete the order. Just use your main password in the box, and then click confirm or what ever the word is, I do it all the time just can't think of it at the moment. This should work for you, it does for me all the time.
Don't go the power up / power down mode. Just go direct to the market.

I definitely thought bifilarcoil needed to "power up". Doesn't it depend on if they want more voting "power" or if they want to sell her steem on the market? What I don't get is when you buy steem it isn't clear if its steem or steem power even though my understanding is that they are completely different things. Oh my. Thanks for your help.

i also tought that i needed to power up, some site tried to explain how that would be the solution, so i'm stillunsure if this was actually what i wanted

I just bought Steem using blocktrades with Etherium. Then after that trade went through I was able to power up, which helps with the curation rewards. Of course once you power up you have to leave it for 2 years, but you earn interest I hear on the money. It all depends on what you were trying to do. Good luck.

Hi. Its 13 weeks power down time now.

Voting power is tied to SBD (Steem Backed Dollars) when you sell Steem inside steemit.com on the "market" you get SBD in return for your steem. The term "powering up" means you are buying SBD.

Thank you, will give that a try.

However, that's even less intuitive then I expected. :-)

So SBD is yet another STEEM something? This is all very confusing.
I mean if something is low then intuitively i would thing i need to buy something to receive tokens that raise the value that was low. So if i need to Sell Steem to buy something is a bit odd. I kinda see how it works but having a battle to wrap my brain around it. As in my native language selling to get something is a very backwards way of doing things. And i wonder if there are any French people here, their language is even more strict. I wonder how they manage.

Anyway Thanks @sultnpapper !

What if I make a mistake, will there be any AI billcollectors kicking down my mailbox?

Your exchanging one form of steem for another, SBD is more for internal use on steemit.com , steem is more for external use and trading outside of steemit.com

no one will come knocking on your door.

btw whats the differece of using bloktrades compared to the internal option that i did mot seem to get?

I see. On Blocktrades i now bet on the left side SteemDollars (SBD).
But on the right side i get the options Steem and Steem Power

So I need just Steem here correct?

My mind is still trying to untangle from backward English monetary-ism. :-)

Almost there, last hurdle i hope.

Your not betting anything, and what are you doing on blocktrades? Use the wallet on your page and do it the way I told you too.

hmmm not sure, i clicked on sell steem and that way i ended on blocktrades hehe

confusing but it worked. next time i try , i'll look if i can figure out how not to go trough blocktrades. weird...

Only use blocktrades if your moving steem or sbd out of steemit.com. Otherwise its best buy steem with sbd on the internal market. There are no fees on steemit.com. its all free.

O damn... I wasted money...
Still i'm not sure why I ended up on the external site. But it's also because the entire system is confusing..

I agree friend.....am in exactly the same position. And how to create a cryptocurrency wallet and transfer is equally unexplained for us newbies. We will stick together and find answers :) Peace.

I don't even have any crypto currency. So all of this is new to me. And STEEM this STEEM that, 3 kinds of steem, 7 pass keys. WTF!? :-)

We will figure it out, but i hope this will get an upgrade that makes it intuitive AND explains on the spot what you are about to do.
And how it will empty your wallet hehe.

I'm not sure as I've neve done this, but need to. You have to go to your email to confirm the sell, look at youtube videos and maybe find the answer there.

I try to view tube video's but i'm on a low bandwidth cell conection (mainly eaten by steemit) so that's not going very quick. I tried to find text based, plain html. But Google mainly finds you tube video's. And seems to refuse to serve anything that's not in the google domain.

YAY Succes!!! Thanks @sultnpapper. :-))

The solution :
Sell Steem Dollar (SBD)
then you get trown to Blocktrades.us
There on the Left side you see Steem Dollar (SBD)
On the right you can choose Steem

Fill in your Steemit account name (in my case bifilarcoil)
and proceed

Then you get thrown to SteemConnect.com
There you need to enter your account name once again (in my case bifilarcoil) And enter the main key (PSK...................)

& viola!
Gained 0.993 STEEM and lost a Drollar.

Now i need to let off some steem...

WOOOOOT!

Oh, OK that's what you wanted apparently.

well i'm not 100% sure yet. , but the bandwidth issu seems to have gone so the site is now usable again
