Unleash the Power of AI Writing with Effective Prompts
Tired of AI generated content? You may think the ChatGPT output is crappy and not up to your expectations
But the truth is that getting good results from AI authoring tools like ChatGPT depends on the quality of prompts
By training ChatGPT, you can get a personal writing assistant for free!
It’s time to discover the art of crafting powerful prompts to make the most of this cutting-edge technology.
Let’s discover it all together!👇🏻
The problem is often not the AI itself, but the limitations and confusion of the tools it provides.
Don't wait for AI to think for you, you should be the one to think and you should guide AI to do the job you want.
Do you get bad results?
That means you get ChatGPT's poorly written and concise instructions - and hopefully some pretty good versions of it.
Simply put, ChatGPT is not good at setting things up from scratch. This still means you have given ChatGPT the following instructions:
Create a LinkedIn post about AI for my account.
Write me twitter news about data science
Write some thoughts about business
You have to stop!
ChatGPT has to be very judgmental when giving advice like this - which leads to some bad stuff.
So always remember.
Poor instructions = Poor results
So what should you do?
There are 4 main steps to assess this. Let’s break them down 🚀
1. Understand your needs and requirements
To order something, you first need to know what you want.
yes?
So you need to know what you want from artificial intelligence, why you want it and how you want it to deliver. This insight will help you create better recommendations and improve results.
First, start standardizing all the outputs you want from AI.
Let's give some examples.
I'm working on my Twitter account - so I want to tweet ideas and Twitter thread patterns.
I'm very active on Medium - so I need inspiration to write and create templates for posts.
Nice!
From this exercise, I can see that I need 4 different outputs.
- Tips for tweeting for Twitter.
- Twitter's thread pattern.
- tips for writing on Medium.
- Medium's sentence frame.
2. Treat AI like a digital intern
Imagine you’ve hired an intern — you wouldn’t give them only one brief explanation and expect them to do everything great at first, right?
Let's say I want to make Twitter posts about using Google Cloud Platform. Notifying my team that I need the GCP twitter thread tomorrow is useless - that's all.
If you do that... maybe you should change your path mate ;)
Then ChatGPT - or any other AI tool - is the same.
Always provide a detailed explanation to your AI, explain the purpose behind the task, and openly share any flaws the AI may have.
This means I can't say:
Hey ChatGPT Follow my Twitter feed about Google Cloud Platform.
The previous instructions were not very clear.
- How many tweets do you want?
- kind of post?
- What subtopics should be mentioned about ChatGPT?
- What is my voice - friendly, professional...?
You're letting the AI make a lot of decisions for you - so its output is incredible.
Always use AI tools to support your business - not to change you.
And this brings us to the following step…
3. Create constraints and avoid assumptions
This is the key to the process. Provide your AI with crisp and clear data for unique and accurate output. You cannot expect AI to deliver precise results when you give vague or general instructions.
Instead, tell the AI exactly what you want.
- Better contextualization - what output do you want?
- A specific topic - with subtopics that need to be addressed.
- A certain format - how many tweets, like messages...
- A certain output format - what type of text we will use, what voice...
So let's start creating our own prompts for creating Twitter threads.
1. Add good content contextualization
I want ChatGPT to create a Twitter account for me.
But what is a Twitter thread?
First I needed to make ChatGPT understand what I meant by the Twitter thread.
Why should good advice start with good content?
[ 🧑🏼🏫 Before informing ChatGPT that I will train him to get some special benefits]
Hey ChatGPT. I will teach you how to create a Twitter feed.
[ 🐦Later I'll explain what this particular post is]
Twitter thread is a tweet thread that explains and shares the main ideas of a longer text or a specific topic.
2. Add a specific topic
I want ChatGPT to write a twitter thread about a specific topic. Now it's time to explain more about this topic.
In this case, I want this thread to discuss the Google Cloud Platform free tier.
3. Add a specific structure
Now it's time to tell ChatGPT what the output pattern is. This section can be general or more specific, depending on your needs. I usually go into as much detail as possible to get a good example to start with.
[ 📝 I've listed all the patterns I want to get from ChatGPT]
First tweet with a concise message so people know what the topic is about. It is important not to exceed 30 words, to use important symbols and to persuade people to read the whole topic.
Show them the value of the subjects.
The second tweet provides a brief introduction of the content and an understanding of why they are still reading the topic. It is important for the reader to read.
4 or 5 tweets describing and explaining the most important part of the article. These should summarize the main points of the topic I told you about earlier.
End the tweet with some conclusions to let people know why your post is worth it.
One last tweet, invite you to retweet your post and follow.
4. A specific format for the output
The final message in the output format will be produced. In
general, I'm including how ChatGPT should behave and what kind of script it should use.
[ 🔖I'm showing the output format I want]
I want you to be like a writer and data scientist. Use natural and friendly language. It is important to use language that is easy to understand - remember that I want to break down complex concepts into everyday language.
5. A specific list of things to avoid
This is if you don't want ChatGPT to say anything, say it.
In my case, I don't want him to use difficult words.
[❌ I always recommend ChatGPT to avoid difficult messages]
4. Iterate and refine your input
Don’t be afraid to rework your prompts multiple times.
Prompt writing is an iterative game — you will not get it right on the first try. But like training an employee, the upfront time investment is worth it. Because once you have a working, reliable prompt, you can use it forever
