In a world where our votes hardly matter...steemCreated with Sketch.

...how refreshing to discover within Steemit that they matter a lot.  The crowd is not always the most sensible of beasts, especially when misinformed and frightened, however, when there is a more symmetric distribution of information, coupled with incentives that work for most people, the crowd can be intelligent, diverse, innovative, adaptable and critically, motivated.

Steemians have had a taste of what it is like to have direct access to the mechanism of power that is able to shape the 'steem' world around us.  I think it's fair to say and quite widely accepted of late, that Steem's success is closely tied to our ability to give as equitable, widely distributed and meaningful access to this power as possible.

It doesn't take much of a leap to understand that the whole of human society could benefit from collaboration within such a powerful system for connecting participants, aligning incentives, motivating engagement and managing economic potential.

So we, the Steemians of today, are custodians of an incredibly powerful network.  As early adopters, we are responsible for guiding Steem to maturity.  Reassuringly, there exists an abundance of passion, skill, honor, generosity, motivation and knowledge within the Steem community.  Differences of opinion are not a problem for Steem because we have the mechanisms and the community to resolve them.  We have the realistic prospect of billions of people able to guide and influence the direction of human activity and engagement on this planet.  There is no other system, crypto technology or otherwise, that can make such a claim today.

Voting is everything.  Vote with your money.  Vote with Steem.

Thank you for posting @benjojo.

Yes....when one is part of an organisation...investing their time and money...one would naturally desire to bring value to that organisation and to their colleagues and it seemed that no matter what the SP amount nothing was making a difference in terms of bringing value. The change in monetary reward is motivating in that now one is a contributing member and it does make a difference.

Appreciate the opportunity to think on these things and express thought.

Cheers.

Edit. added word 'matter'

Totally bleujay. Motivation is everything. Motivation comes from opportunity.....we have that in Steem. Imagine how much value is being lost the way the world works today. Given the advance of robotics and AI. Finding value in each other has never be more important. The idiot psychopaths without imaginations have already conclude the only solution is to kill most of us off. So utterly unnecessary, evil, empty and false.

Thank you for your reply @benjojo.

Yes...you are correct.

Freedom is an essential element to the exercise of one's volition.....therefore there will be those who in freedom excel and those who fail. An entity cannot force success not can it prevent failure. Thus requiring virtue and responsibility from the individual....something that cannot be realised apart from recognition of God, Who is absolute good, fulfilling and absolute truth....the opposite of evil, empty and false.

Once again thank you for opportunity to express thought.

All the best to you. Cheers.

I used to vote on Facebook, but for what reasons? Now I have many reasons. For the first time I have the feeling my vote makes a difference

Thank you timsaid. For me, this is everything, I'm glad you feel the same.

I guess that's the reason why we came together on this Plattform? :) It gives us the opportunity to make right decisions and care for each other. Imagine the impact our votes will have in a few years?

Imagining the impact of this in a few years occupies my thoughts, one way or another, pretty much constantly :)

I was being bullied by 5 whales and someone saw my posts and promoted me. It made all the difference because bad whales who downvote good posts can make them disappear where no one sees them. Also the bad SP Whales can ruin your reputation. I'm a firm believer of the promo option.

It's certainly true that there are problems within Steemit that need to be resolved. Most of them seem to be coming from the use of extreme influence. These are challenges that we should all be aware of and working towards solutions for. I'm sorry you felt victimised and I'm very happy you had a helping hand and that the promotion option helped you. Together we'll get it right.

It is from the kindness of other whale that have given me a different perspective about the majority of whales, especially for a new person. I got to experience both sides and believe something has to be done not to turn new people away because of a few bad whales.

New people must be welcomed with open arms and given as much support as possible. There is quite a steep learning curve in joining a new community. One key aspect we could improve upon is managing expectations.

Don't promote as a way to make money. Promote it as freedom, no censorship, great community for support, and it can make money for HQ posts and original posts. The introductions are paid attention and earn newbies rewards, but, after that they are ignored until the minnow/author connects with the community with original HQ posts. Whales and dolphins normally vote on their friend'ss posts. It's difficult to get in with the cool kids on steemit that carry any weight.

Thank you mathworksheets. I often post about these things, it's because I think about them a lot and I want everyone to realise what we have here :) I'm sure many already do!

But not everybody think about it a lot as you said. So please keep posting and sharing your knowledge, it is kinda watchman spreading awareness.

I don't like this idea of promoting submissions, it makes the site less organic.

It's one view of the content out of many and serves a purpose so doesn't bother me, though I don't spend much time looking at that view currently.

Hahahaha! Lovely. Thank you hilarski! :)
